Yup, it's Egyptian.

The numerical denomination is covered up by the weird clamp someone soldered onto it, destroying its value... but the octagonal shape identifies it easily as Egypt, 2.5 milliemes, 1933, made of copper-nickel.

Someone must have liked the King.

I'm not an expert, but if memory serves it is indeed Egyptian. Looks like the date is given in both Arabic and Western calendars... 1933/1352 if I'm reading that correctly. Somebody else can give more info and a better ID, but these type of modern coins are common and seldom worth more than a dollar.

What really fascinates me is the thing glued/welded onto the back. Looks like somebody tried to turn this into an earring or necklace at one point? Certainly interesting, but it doesn't add to the value.

The octagonal shape can be used to identify this as an Egyptian 2 1/2 Milliemes, KM# 356. In circulated condition, it isn't worth more than $10 anyway so at least the buttonmaker didn't destroy a high-value coin.

Edit: I missed that nalaberong had already identified this one in full...oops

Super. Thanks lads.

That date would tie in with the other memorabilia I have of my great Uncle's stuff. He was in Middle East and North East Africa in 40's & 50's.

Couple of boxes of stuff and sadly I can't keep it all. Trying to work out what I want to keep hold of.

Will get some snaps of the other unidentifiable (to me) coins.
