Hello. I am new to collecting and stumbled upon this in my jewelry box. I think this is an 1853 Gold United States of America 2 1/2 D coin. Id love to trade this in for some new coins but have no idea what I can expect for the price. If anyone could tell me what I have and how much I could expect I would be pleased. Is that a bezel it's in? (top can be unscrewed, sides pop open to release coin)
If that's real you've had an incredible piece sitting in your box. But it might just be a jewelry piece made to look like one, that's really common with coins designs.
Try taking some very close-up, clear pictures if you can.

1853 is a very common year. If undamaged it may be worth $300-400 from what I can tell from your pics. If damaged from being in jewelry, it would be worth scrap gold.

Yikes yeah the soldering of the chain part to it isn't a good sign but we'll see the pictures.

No collector value in this condition. Worth whatever a gold scrap dealer is willing to pay.

Yeah it's probably worth about 150 in gold if it is real, don't let a fishy scrapper steal it from you for 50 bucks.

You might ebay it with the chain. Removing it from its mount will probably only diminish the value, maybe someone wants it as a jewelry piece. Check the clasp to see if there is any marking to perhaps provide some gold value in it or take to a jeweler. That's what I would do. Good Luck. |
