Since the mint is now commemorating US coin designs (with the gold Kennedy half), maybe we'll get a Mercury dime commemorative in 2016 for the 100 ear anniversary. |

I don't know if it will be as big as the 2001 Buffalo nickel, but I will surely get one of each, if it becomes a reality. |

Why just a commemorative? Why not suspend the Roosevelt design for all of 2016 and issue 1916-2016 double dated Mercs for circulation that year.

Although, in all honesty, a 1916-2016 double date would be completely meaningless to anyone outside of the numismatic community, I'm afraid.

True. Not like the 1776-1976 double date, which was much more universally meaningful (although I'm sure it still confused a few).

I'd love it if the US mint would do this with other classic coin designs, too. Maybe in 2037-2039 we'll see some seated liberty commems.  |
