A very unique and exquisite coin. The gold caribou looks stunning. Too bad there's not an affordable set for the average collector. I didn't think the coin would be so eye catching! I'm glad you took time to share the photos.

I was referring to the 5 oz silver penny from the 2012 "farewell to the penny" series. Although it is not gold plated, it is the only way to compleat the 5 oz circulation coin set.

Been looking for one of the 5oz farewell to the penny ever since this big coin set became available. No luck, only crazy sellers trying to get $750 and up.

wow, on the wave of the "Big Coins" it raised in price... I remember year ago for sure it was available for $650-$680

and interesting to remember, that it was available for issue - short period at RCM and bit longer at Canada Post....

Added:

Did a quick search, here it for $700 with Best Offer + $20 shipping from Toronto.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2012-5-oz-si...em2c8fca8dc3

So that's the chance to get below $700. Try offer him/her local or direct sale.

Thanks for the link, still a big price tag but it makes "cents" as there are not many available.
Good old supply and demand strikes again.

I've found one in the London Ontario area for $620. The price may be negotiable as it's listed on a buy and sell site

Beautiful coins, but should have had higher mintages, and been half the price.

playoneday, those coins do look nice together, I hope you'll post pics of the entire set once it's complete. I'm sure it will be stunning!! So far I prefer the caribou, I bet the fifty cent coin will be outstanding. I hope you'll enjoy the coins and your time on CCF.

Wow folks, fantastic coins so far! I can't wait to see some photos of the complete collection, with the case. I like this set, except the price is very off-putting for me. I would have settled for much smaller coins for half the price. Still, a great set to add to one's collection!

On the RFD forum, someone has pointed out there are different finishes to the gold plating. Some coins have a darker finish than others. Has anyone else notice the differences?
