Azes I was a Indo-Scythian king that ruled from @57-30 BC. There is some contention that Azes I and Azes II are one in the same. This coin however is attributed to Azes I. Indo-Scythian AE Tetradrachm Azes I 57-30 BC Obverse: Humped back bull, Greek legend: BASLIEWS BASILEWN MEGALOU AZOU, Mongram Reverse: Lion facing left, Kharosthi legend: MAHARAJASA RAJARAJASA MAHATASA AYAS, monogram above loions back. 14.6 grams x 26 mm die axis 7h Reference: Mitchener 2373ff, BMC 151

Nice ones echizento. I have two that I believe are Azez II, both the same type. Seated God with the Hermes standing reverse. I find it interesting that Scythians used a Greek god on some of their coins.

Mine...Azes II (?) Whats interesting is the way they are related to these guys who founded 2 dynasties and an empire in India, that lasted 400 years, contemporary with the Roman Empire.

It amazes me how much history comes out of these eastern empires.
