@smokeriderdon: Bwahahahhaahh, re: your comment about the wedged in capsules of the set. The perfectionists among us are too used to MS110/PR110 coins to expect any less from the Mint. Reading that comment made my day. Heh heh.

Enjoyed the two sets I got this week, but I'm not over the moon about them. Too many special sets makes them ho-hum, I rather miss the "bad old" days of the Mint when you could only buy 1 proof and 1 mint set year and all the bronze medals you desire.

I can see that point for the ASEs. But this is the first and only set for the Kennedys.

I have seen many many folks complain that the mint needs to do more stuff like the Perth Mint or the Canadian mint does. I agree. I like for there to be plenty of products to choose from. Just because they offer them does not mean you have to buy them. Those days can remain bad and old. Neither a good thing.

My original set I ordered the first day was defective and I had to send it back. Now I have a question about weather to wait for my refund before buying another set and taking the chance of these sets being sold out or should I play it safe and just order (and pay) for another set now? I would not have this dilemma if the mint would have sent proof caliber coins the first time, so disappointing. Any opinions?

edit: I ordered another set...I don't know how close they are to being sold out but I just didn't want to take that chance.

Guess I'll have to put my 2014 Arches 5 Oz. with incuse DDR(PCGS did label it as such, but, both Wexler & Wiles debunked it, as expected), for a low $60k...free shipping and insurance.

My set came in over the weekend - I love it! Well worth the money IMO. I have inspected each coin and I do not see any flaws. The reverse proof especially is incredible. I'd like to thank those who posted information and (especially) pictures on this thread for getting me off the fence about buying the set. If I hadn't I know I would regret it.

My only issue with the packaging is that I did find a single small fiber inside the capsule holder for the Uncirculated D coin on the obverse side. Looking closely, it's clearly a fiber, and not a flaw with the coin itself. It's only visible from certain angles, and I was already planning to rotate that coin so the reverse side shows anyway, so I can live with it.

I hope that Dansco doesn't make a page for these, but if they do I'll purchase a second set for it. This set is staying in the OGP.

I wonder the same thing as cjspearsdog "what does the mint do with the returned sets". Also how would this reflect the number count they release. I have a small hope that they destroy all the defective coins resulting in a lower number of available sets.

I suppose DANSCO album has no plans to make appropriate page for these, or, do they? They tend to bomb when it comes to "out of the box" coinage...aka: 25c S mint coins.
In their defense, the mint has called a few audibles lately. Changing up the nickels, adding satin finish in the middle of the Statehood Quarters, changing up the cents, removing satin finish in the middle of the Presidential dollars and ATB Quarters, adding circulating S-Mint quarters in the middle of the ATB Quarter series, and now changing up the half dollars.

I am not complaining, but it does make it difficult for album makers to catch up, let alone plan ahead. If they are smart, they would not make any changes until the current year's coins fall on the following page, just in case the mint sneaks in another change or three.

Why on earth would you put this reverse proof into a Dansco album? :/
Unless it's slotted for an airtite capsule -

@ Zookr, the ogp isn't airtite by any means anyway, if you look at the edge of each coin you can see a gap in the plastic all the way to each coin lol, this is why so many fibers or little bits of the black velvet are slipping inside the capsules. I could care less, they should make for some amazing and fast toning if left in the ogp. Imo

If those capsules aren't air tight then I was under the wrong impression that they where. I checked on the mint website and it didn't say they are air tight so my question is if there is an air tight capsule that can be used and still fit in the display case?

I would guess a LOT of KHD folks in here use Dansco's..better have new clean littleton cotton gloves when putting these new babies in, and, work slowly. It would make a nice page, with ALL 2014 issues as stand alone page.

125,147 - Everyone who really wanted one.
12,655 - Everyone who wanted one but forgot about the release.

My estimate is that this will taper off to 5,000 a week with a bit of a spike before the holidays. I doubt that they will exceed the first run of 180,000.
