I was fortunate today to have been able to watch the television coverage of the Remembrance Day ceremonies in Ottawa today.

It was a very moving experience as it always is, but this year's was particularly special. There were so many veterans, active service men and women, as well as tens of thousands of ordinary citizens present. All were there to take part in the poignancy and seriousness of the event, yet showing the unity that all Canadians must feel on such a solemn occasion.

The wonder of what a great country we have, thanks to those who have worn, and do wear the uniform, was as clear as the beautiful sunny day.

It made me proud to be a Canadian. Thank you!

Your servicemen and servicewomen have a fine tradition and history. You have every reason to be proud of them and your wonderful country.

I wish everyone a memorable and enjoyable Remembrance Day, as we remember the brave soldiers and family members who have gave so much, to make today's Canada possible!! I didn't know all of Canada didn't have the day off. Very surprised to learn it wasn't a holiday in the nations capital. Hopefully soon it will be a national holiday!!

Reporting directly from the War Memorial in Ottawa...
At sunset hour large crowds still lingering around the cenotaph, many still laying down their poppies, taking photos and conversing with men in uniform.
It was a very poignant day...witnessing hundreds of war vets marching in line as part of the ceremony, stoic faces, as always,...as they stood for well over an hour on their feet...unwavering as the service was longer than usual this year...
Great tribute for them...
Statutory holiday or not - these vets need to acknowledged throughout the year.
Day trip to Ottawa with young nephew included visit at RCM after service, where he selected on his own - two coins; 2014 silver dollar commemorative declaration of war and, colored "wait for me, daddy".
Once again, Lest We Forget!!

These scenes were from the Vancouver Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph. It was packed and I did not get too close.

At 7 pm, we took our Cub Scout pack to the war memorial, laid a wreath and then walked them around the memorial, and discussed the different dates of the wars on it (I am a Cub Scout leader and this is something we do every year). There were still a good number of people at the memorial, and a ton of poppies. When we "packed" our Cubs (which is bringing them in a circle and includes singing of our national anthem), several of the bystanders joined us in the singing O Canada in the cold evening air...
