I was just looking through a cup of coins I've accumulated through travels. What's the chance of only Canadian quarter I have in cup being a proof? Either that or it has been well preserved in my cup since my last trip to Canada in 2005.

Pictures don't seem to do it justice. Coin is like a mirror.

Modern Canadian circulation coinage have that kind of finish. Not a proof.

Thank you! Was thrown off by P mint mark and it being only Canadian quarter I have, so nothing to compare to... I've got plenty of Canadian pennies through roll hunting

CLS12-
The "P" stands for nickel plated steel. In 2001 the mint changed from Nickel Quarters to Plated Quarters. The "P" is for identification of these blanks.

Proofs have the frosted highlights on the design IE Queen's portrait.

@ Jimmy D fact check on your statement regular plated coins rather than nickel 2001 not 1991.
