Its kind of like how Liberty dimes are misnomers to Mercury. There was much confusion among coin enthusiast in 1970, as for the 5 previous years, these were often referred to as 80%, 80% clad. or just clad because that is how they were made. Commonly, as logic gave way, these came be known as 40%'ers as that was their composition, and we suddenly had a new clad. I used to spot 40% on the bay listed as 80%. They used to go for less than spot, because no one knew what they were. Now they go for stupid money if you see them, because Joe Blow doesn't know any better, nor the sense to ask.
