Shale Valued Member United States 245 Posts	Posted 12/07/2014 10:52 pm Someone I know wanting to sell one of these near spot price, it is a Proof (Im assuming 70). I looked it up on PGCS http://www.pcgs.com/prices/pricegui...tinum+eagles Why does it show it being worth $12,500? Is it possible a proof coin direct from the mint isn't Proof 70? I looked up and saw a few NGC slabbed online for ~ $1000, still not close to the 12,500 PGCS shows. Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

CelticKnot Bedrock of the Community United States 12869 Posts	Posted 12/07/2014 11:05 pm to the community, shale. Unless it's slabbed and graded MS-70, it's not MS-70. Many proof coins come from the mint flawed. Check out any of the threads on the Kennedy 50th Anniversary Silver Set for some recent complaints/examples. If the MS-70's from 1997 are going for that much, there must be relatively few examples of MS-70. If you click on the 1997 $50 with MS designation, it shows that PCGS has only graded 3 of them MS-70. Also, the price you're quoting is PCGS Price Guide value for a Mint State coin (MS70). You say it's a proof which has a listed value of $1450 (which is still far more than it's worth). So....if it is a PCGS PR70DCAM then melt is a good price. If it's a 69 then melt's about the going rate these days. ANA #R3154474 Report this Post to the Staff
