Somewhat rare, but not exceedingly so...I'm not sure how many "R"s on a rarity scale it would earn.

I don't think there even was a Phraates V in the Parthian series! IV was the last, I believe. In any event, it's not a Phraates of any number.

Hint: it is a number one ("I") of another common, well-known Parthian name.

Now you see I would have Guessed Mithridates II, and been done with it. Now I am not so sure? I sense trickery.

Well, if you would have guessed II, but I just hinted that it's a I, what does that leave us with?

You got it, Med. Seems funny to hear "odd" in reference to a coin from early in the series, when Greek naturalism was still prominent...those later, abstract drachms got pretty bizarre.

Mithra II was a good guess too, AN. Mithra I portraits (the ones with the diadems) are similar, just with slightly leaner features and a pointier beard than on most II's.

Mithradates I
drachm, 171 - 138 BC
Mint: Hekatompylos
Sellwood 11.1

This coin is posted as an example of the type at:

Yep, one gets used to the more common types.
Since 'Ancientnoob' more or less had it and he owes us several dozen challenges, I'll let him post the next one.

I'm sorry, I have been preoccupied. I accept the Honor Med.

At this rate everyone will be intimately familiar with the the dynasty of seedy night club owners.

Another (Maha-) Kshatrapa I see.
Not going to put a name forward since I am going to bed in a few minutes.

I understand why you wouldnt venture a guess but you made the good observation of style and named the Royal Title of this Empire.

I know that we are moving over to a new server, that could be the problem. It still doesn't show up for me. Can you reload the image again?
