Hi!

I'm not sure this is in the right place because I know which coin it is, but I would certainly like more information about this.

This is a 1940 George VI 'One Penny' piece, but the odd thing is the colouring. It isn't dark and bronze like all of the other pennies like this we have; it looks silvery. I don't know whether this is a fake, and error, or a genuine coin.

Any information would be appreciated!

Thanks!

There is a common highschool experiment when they plate copper coins. also some people have garage electro-plating so there are lots of pennies like this, in North America.

Question, is the weight correct for a 1940 1 (UK)penny? if this was actually silver then the weight would be significantly higher than a normal penny.

First, thank you both for the replies, I appreciate it.

Secondly, I think you may be right about the plating. I don't have any precise scales but it seems to weigh about the same as a regular UK penny of the same time. So this coin would not have been minted by this, but plated by someone themselves?

Thanks again!
