Don't forget the confederate $500. If genuine and not damaged, a $300 item. Many advertising products were made using this as the obverse, those items worth about $20.

So nearly 3 grand from the looks of it. I suppose it's not too much of a scam, but it's still a bit misleading...

As was previously stated the jar looks like it just came out of the dishwasher.

the "house" pictured is not from the 1800's. It wouldn't take 3 days to clear out that one room shack..

It's obvious to anyone that the jar hasn't been sealed for 50 years.. not even 10 years...

I can't believe people would fall for the scam... but, as one poster said, if the coins showing are worth 2500.00 then 2500.00 is worth the bid.
Since the guy stated there was nothing since 1964, I would expect silver through-out.

Haha kind of funny if you ask me... Just a simple " Vintage glass jar" search on ebay and within the first couple of listings you can find the same "bell jar" that the guy is using.

It looks like this is the new trend in selling coins...

Quote:
I have looked it up on here and recently a few bigger mason jars have sold for anywhere between $2,000 to $5,000!....since mine is smaller I will start the bidding lower to give people a chance to receive these gems.....

This person doesn't even put a gold coin on the outside to catch peoples attention, and all the coins look like culls. The sellers feedback rating of 84.2% is impressive too!

This is another good one:

I really love this line in the description:

Quote:
+...IAM PLANNING TO ADD MORE OF THIS COINS FROM MY COLLECTION DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH MORE YOU CAN GIVE FOR IT....

And another:

And another:

This is one of the best lines I have seen in a listing for coins:

Quote:
Their are 3 Morgan silver dollars, one is 1889, one is Carson City but the third is not where I can read its date, no matter how much I shake it.

The questions and answers on this one are also good.

Shake it baby

Shake-a-Date coins.

This new marketing trend may result in the jars rising in value which could also result in Whitman developing a line of coin jars!

Does cleaning and scrubbing your coin jars reduce their value or the coins in them?

Isn't it funny, every one of these auctions has the gold coin between the glass and bill.

I think half these bidders know that this is not from an 1875 house attic or whatever, they are just bidding accordingly.. At least I hope that's what they are doing.

Regarding the three additional auctions identified above by Susuman -

The first isn't even actually a jar, it's evidently a Twizzler® container, not that the seller can apparently even spell "Twizzler®"!

The second seems to be more typical of this new marketing trend, supposedly everybody who ever stashed coins in a jar before croaking sealed them up for some reason. Seller has low feedback. $25.00 shipping.

I concur the third auction is just plain silly. Can't get the jar open? Really? You'd "have to break it to get inside?" Even if, so why is that some huge problem? (I do wonder if the sellers are being clever enough to glue the lids shut. But in all your experience, does anyone who's actaully accumulating coins in jars do that? How does preventing their own access benefit them?)

I'm so flabbergasted at all the improbable and even in some respects ridiculous backstories being proffered and that anybody would believe any of them that I'm at a loss for what to say anymore on this topic.

I suppose that all depends on the TPJG (Third Party Jar Graders).

Then too, we may eventually see jars with "green beans" on the outside!

These things are the new "unsearched rolls". We're watching this phenomenon emerge right here on CCF.
