Quote: fishing enthusiasts do not care about coins You got that backwards. Some coin enthusiasts care about fishing. I know of at least two.

Quote: Sadly, the gilding on the celebration of the nickel doesn't look right. I was looking forward to that one. do you remember, CC-Ottawa, we thought the same about "Big Series", but the Loonie have been struck and plated very nicely. I think, the Nickel will be great....and it affordable, looking to get one. Quote: Some coin enthusiasts care about fishing. I know of at least two. and this is true.....but it means, that the 6.500 will be enough for all. Sorry, guys, I didn't mean, that fishing enthusiast, into "fish only", sure not. Just wanted to say, that they will not chase after coin as "must have item".

I stopped trying to predict how well a coin will do since the release of the 2013 superman gold coin lol, I thought it was going to be a loser, boy was I wrong.... you just never know who will come out of the woodwork and buy a certain type of coin ... there are appox 40 million people in Canada and appox 400 million in the US ,and somewhere between 7 billion and 8 billion people on the planet and rising ... The baby boomer's are all 50 plus now , lots of buying potential right there.

So are the Fish coins a leak from Can Post because they are not in the Mint MC site and look like a Feb coin.

I like the King George V effigy on the 5 Cent coin, no weight on that coin big at 40mm, gold plated silver, and at 40 mm it must be over an ounce.

Strange, they must have changed the listing it had this before. 40 mm, no weight. All good.

Even at 40mm this almost for sure 1oz coin (just the guess without looking at the coin specifications). Like the Sacred teaching coins or 100for100 series.
Yes, traditional Proof will be better, cause the light plays differently on the relief, while gold-plating usually makes it "flat". Again I find mintage un-necessarily big. And again, do you, people, know what exactly it commemorates and why now?

The gold plating on the 1/2 ounce Celebrating Canada coin had 3 types of gold frosting and mirror plating. I thought this one was well done. At 38 mm and one ounce that is more like it, expensive but George effigy will make it popular. I like it alot.
40 mm coins are usually silver plated, which is why I questioned the weight and diameter.
Looking at the rendering, it appears the crown on the reverse of the coin has three tones of gold frosting and mirror like finish on the band of the crown. As well, the proof version will have mirror fields and a nice frosting of Geo V on the obverse. Unique. I have ordered the Geo V 2010 75th Anniv of the SD and this would make a nice matching set for that silver .925 coin. Pretty expensive though. Low mintage.

Notice that according to the listing, he sold one of these coins in November. Nice trick given the coin isn't even officially out yet.

Silveroid, thanks for that, I see that 2011 SD as one that I would love to own. Had the 2010 on the wish list and will be delivered this week. Edit: Delivered today; I like modern versions of the old effigies. I like the George VI effigy in the 70th Anniv of DDay 1/2 ounce coin. And the old effigy of QEII on the 1953-2003 anniversary SD. (Wish List) Seeing the names of the designers are the same as for the original - 1915 for this 5 Cent coin so should be authentic. Silveroid - You never revealed the reason for this commemorative 5 Cent coin ... I see that there was a .925 silver 5 Cent coin in 1915, Mintage = 1,172,258 From the CCF library here is a picture of the 1915 coin for comparison. http://www.coincommunity.com/canadi...ive_cent.asp Engraver: Obverse: Sir E. B. MacKennal, Reverse: W. H. J. Blakemore They are listed as the designers of this modern coin as well.

Congrats for the new 2010 coin, SilverDon (I remember, this coin was my first order from Gatewest...3 years ago). Quote: I like modern versions of the old effigies. Same for me. i will not touch the "Royal" series with different old effigies, but would like to have "modern official NCLT replicas" of older circulation coins with old effigies. Quote: And the old effigy of QEII on the 1953-2003 anniversary SD. (Wish List) I think we discussed in other thread, but at bottom line the "Special Coronation Edition SD" will have modern QEII effigy, but the one that part of the set - will be double dated with young Queen. Additional coin that you might take a look:1908-2008 Coin and stamp set: the 1908-2008 50c piece bear effigy of Edward VII http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Canada-2008-...em2c94e5be96(inexpensive set, nice case, I just find it bit duplication to 1908-1998 set).
