so correct. Took another look at the new Cougar - it is so nicely done. Wish I have 1K spare to spend. Pierre Leduc's Cougar is growling and "gonna eat you alive". But Glen Loates's Cougar looks like confused big cat. He is looking at you with surprised look and asking like "what exactly I see here?"

The Gold Bass looks super nice. Lots of subscriptions. Not keen on anything here. How many silver ducks are they going to make. Two to sit on top of the box now.

The new 1 KG Cougar does not look as nice as last year's snowny owl. The eyes are very small compared to the owl's. The Vancouver Mint Boutique already had it in stock last week and I am not impressed with it. Speaking of the 3 coin moon mask set, the RCM site says the Vancouver Mint has it in stock, so people who want to see it in person may do so.

The new duck coins are a huge disappointment in my opinion. They should have just stopped with the first three, the RCM is seriously money hungry.

The 1 oz. Fine Silver 8-Coin Subscription - Forests of Canada - has a really nice Box/case with a cherry stain it looks like. Could be a nice set, but again the RCM missed the boat, 8500 mintage for the Sub and the single coin, why oh why cant they get their act together and actually state how many Subscriptions/boxes there are, If the Sub had a 3000 mintage then I might actually want to subscribe, but as it is I have no idea what the Sub mintage is going to be , so no thanks, their loss I will spend my money else where.

I think, for long time confusion is goes here. RCM put the limit on the coin as 8.500 of each, but how many will be sold as sets of 8 no one can predict, they would like to sell as much as possible. It really doesn't meter since subscription not equal to set. What will tell us amount of boxes? That 3000 people (for example) have all 8 coins in the box. And together with it possible that additional 3000 people have all 8 coins as singles... The improvement could be done in offering the subscription as set only. No singles. With the fee for the box in case of cancellation. Added: This box will be ideal for:2001 - 2007 Special Edition Coloured Maple Leaf coins (total: 7) + some recent coloured Maple Leaf Would consider to buy the box if people will offer it for sale.

Quote: but how many will be sold as sets of 8 no one can predict Exactly, thats the issue. So your saying that it is ok "not to know how many subs are to be sold? I guess some don't care which is fine but I would think most do and would buy a sub to a 3000 mintage sub over a possible 8500 mintage sub. Not only that but the RCM could advertise that for instance only 3500 subs are available and only 5000 single coins in clam shells are available , so they could still sell their 8500 coins but now there is a perceived lower mintage of both types. Better marketing and happier buyers. Anyways I wont sub to any of their high mintage coin subs until they actually list the amount of subs to be sold and make my decision then. Ok so rereading your post I think I sort of understand why they do it the way that they do. If someone cancels their sub then the Mint has these extra coins that they want to sell , so they just get migrated back into the total mintage. Must be a better way because not knowing just turns me off from their "Sub System"

I understand you wish, Northerncoins.
As example, the COA of 2012 Proof Britannia that I have, mentions:
"Mintage in the special presentation case" :2000 (or 2500), I do not remember if total coin's mintage mentioned.
But tell me please, in which case you will be interested to buy: **declared total mintage of 8.500, sets maximum amount 3.000 **declared total mintage 5.000 no singles, sets only **declared total mintage of 6.000 , mix sets and singles.

Commems; Subscriptions of war series indeed voluminous - I went ahead with single orders only of the initial battle of brit, and homefront - I too will hope to be selective in regard to these sets. Clearly there is a great deal to commemorate over the next several years as we cross the 100th anniversaries of various significant war moments - and RCM will make it a good go to produce the definitive sets to commemorate those monumental historical military events from WWI and WW2... Enjoy!!

I'm kind of 'subbed' out at the moment, as it's far to easy for a devoted collector like me to get carried away. I know I will end up with far too many coins showing up at my door and ask myself later 'what was I thinking?'. Personally I don't like buying coins sight unseen and would rather not get saddled with ones I really don't want, just to get the set. The only real advantage to being a subscriber seems to be the convenience of not having to order each coin when it is announced. Certainly the Mint has to make coins available individually so as not to be stuck with returns or in the event of lower than expected response. I ended up passing on the latest round of NCLTs knowing that many of the dealers at major upcoming shows (Cambridge, ONA, Coin Expo, Torex and RCNA) will all have them in quantity if I change my mind later.

Those WWI/WWII subscriptions actually span multiple years, so only a few coins per year. But without a wooden case as subscription incentive I don't see why people would choose to subscribe, when they could cherry-pick just the ones they like.
Anyway, here are the release schedules:
First World War Battlefront --------------------------- The Battle of Neuve-Chapelle Ships March 2015 The Second Battle of Ypres Ships March 2016 The Battle of Beaumont-Hamel Ships March 2017 The Battle of the Somme Ships September 2017 The Battle of Vimy Ridge Ships March 2018 The Battle of Passchendaele Ships September 2018 Canada's Hundred Days Ships March 2019 First Armistice at Compiègne Ships March 2020
Second World War Battlefront ---------------------------- The Battle of Britiain Ships March 2015 The Battle of Hong Kong Ships March 2016 The Battle of Dieppe Ships March 2017 The Bombing War Ships September 2017 The Battle of the Atlantic Ships March 2018 The Battle of Sicily Ships September 2018 Juno Beach on D-Day Ships March 2019 The Battle of the Scheldt Ships March 2020 The Liberation of the Netherlands Ships March 2020 Victory Day Ships September 2020
The Canadian Home Front ----------------------- Transcontinental Railroad Ships March 2015 First Submarines Ships July 2015 British Commonwealth Air Training Plan Ships November 2015 U-Boat Ships March 2016

"declared total mintage of 8.500, sets maximum amount 3.000" would be ok , they could work with that and just declare that there will be no more then 3000 Subs/cases sold, that would make me more willing to buy a Sub that I actually liked. Then once the set is compete I know that there are no more then 3000 sets with original box, as it stands we have no clue how many sets with boxes are in a Sub. Which is just really lame.

Since there are no household limits on the Forest sub you can add as many as you like to your shopping cart and then reduce the quantity until you won't get the "insufficient inventory to proceed" message anymore. The Forest sub has some 920 subs left at this moment which suggests there were maybe 1500 to begin with. But it could be more if this sub was commissioned by a dealer (see Big Coin series), so it's hard to tell.
