Thanks for the opinions. You guys are right, this bill is rather common.

Here are the last 2 bills I will post (my currency collection is rather small). I picked up the Hawaii bill last year. I had always wanted one of those.

To give you some idea of how common the Series 1923 $1 SCs are: there were over 3 Billion (!) of them printed in the six short years until large size notes were discontinued. The second most common note, the Series 1917 "X-Back" $1 US Note, had a print run of around $970 Million (itself no small feat) over twice as many years.

Your note (the Speelman/White FR37 issue) was issued in the staggering amount of 2.4 Billion all by itself - a record not to be surpassed until around WWII if I recall. The type is so common that even the much scarcer FR38 issue (Woods/White sigs), with a print run of less than 10% of the Speelman/White note, is still available in high grades for the same price!

As an example, here's an FR38 I purchased recently for less than $260 -

This is from the first series of the Black Eagles and was printed in 1899 or 1900 (Lyons/Roberts sigs).

Note the lack of block letters at either end of the serial number - at that time there were not enough printed to necessitate them, even for a one dollar bill!

Very nice SC's everybody. I especially like the Black Eagle Mr.Frog. It's hard to beat both President Lincoln and President Grant on the front of a US bank note.

It's a wonderful design and would still look good on our currency today. Unfortunately, we would have to replace "One Silver Dollar" below the eagle with "One Dollar", which would definitely change the message.
