Hi all first post. Just after some information if anyone can help. I received a 2 pound coin in my change today and noticed the Queens face has been defaced. It has been stamped with an eagle stood upon the swastika and also has ss on the back. Is this illegal? Or valuable? Cheers in advance for any advice

If I'm correct it is illegal to deface money in Britain, even coins. So technically, it would be illegal. I wouldn't worry though.
Pictures would be appreciated, as this sounds interesting.

It's not too hard, really. I'm pretty new myself but I've succeded several times before. When not in quick-reply "mode" there is a button that says "Upload Image" or such. A window will pop up and you can upload from there. The links will appear in your post. The pictures have to be .jpg files and under 200kB, I think. Personally I do all adjustments in a picture editing program, but I think there is a picture adjuster in the photo window. Just grab a camera, take some pictures, let the site adjust them, attach them in a post and let the expert have their say (I am nowhere an expert)

It isn't illegal to own a defaced coin, but it is illegal to create one, and if you try to spend it you could, in theory, find yourself in court trying to prove that you did not, in fact, create it. See Section 10 of the 1971 Coinage Act. Though, with a penalty of only £400, I doubt there's too much interest in pursuing coin vandals unless they are doing it on an industrial scale.

In this particular instance, I suspect someone was simply using a £2 coin to test the little stamp they were using to create fake Nazi memorabilia. Here's an old thread with some fake Nazi silver bars.

There is a German guy that comes over for War and Peace show every year who stamps dog tags and sells them. He also ahs a party trick of stamping the Queens head if you give him a coin, here is a 50p that's had double treatment , SS runes on one side and the eagle clutching swastika on the other....
