Got a gut feeling this 1964D Kennedy half is Die Deterioration and would like your opinions/expert advice.

Looks like mechanical. If the letters are just widened or lenghtened without a clear separation of the serifs is usually mechanical or die wear.

Mechanical doubling. the doubled image is flat which is a good indicator of MD.

Thanks for the assistance. Went through over 1600 halfs last month and found a bunch of early 70's that look alot like this 64.

This is a form of Mechanical Doubling. Essentially, the lettering is sheared and damaged slightly by the die as it twists or bounces a little during the strike.
