Since the spot price of silver broke through the $60/ounce level in early December, the pickins have been slim on the North Shore (where before that event I could count on finding a steady stream of silver half dollars in CWRs and BWRs). The explanation probably is that the public now is well ware of the value of coins that contain silver. Last week I described finding a classic commemorative half dollar in a box of BWRs. This week was slightly better: i.e., I found one 1964 Kennedy half dollar and two coins that contain 40% silver in four boxes. I found the 90% silver coin and one of the other ones in a box that I didn't order. When I called the bank, the teller told me she had a box that another customer had ordered but never picked up.

Picked this group up on Thursday. My pictures are not too good but some of these are in really good condition.

Two weeks ago, I posted a note describing the poor CRH results I've had since mid-December searching for silver half dollars in BWRs and CWRs. Things improved this week: I found five silver coins in four boxes that I acquired from two banks. The uncirculated 1964 Kennedy half dollar is in such good condition that is must have been kept by a coin collector. In addition, finding the 1943-S Mercury dime in a CWR was a nice bonus.
