It is a shame since at one time this was a beautiful coin, nice cameo and my birth year so even more special to me. There are plenty of circulation marks now, and on a 16x loupe you can see the mint mark is chipped on the outside of the S. What annoys me is that someone actually had to crack open the proof case to spend it. I wish they would have called me, I would have given them more than .50 for it.

I do not think it was an act of desperation on a collector's part; or I should say I hope it was not a desperate act! I think it usually comes down to simple ignorance, not stupidity. Most people do not understand the numismatic value. They think that the collector they robbed or inherited the coins from was just crazy! They do not understand and only see them for face value.

My wife got a 1999-S (non-silver) Delaware Quarter in change at the grocery store last year. Wait a second... are you my nephew?

Yeehaw! I didn't think it was possible, but I found it!
A 2008. Who in the heck spent THAT?! Either someone said to heck with this roll I just paid over double face value for, or lil' Billy got the ol' lockpick out and just had to get a Two Tone.
Either way, its mine now! Muuuwahahaha

Went to the bank to get some rolls today, they didn't have any but one of the tellers had $3.50 in loose half's, so I took them. Right on top of the little pile was a shiny 1969 Kennedy.

In terms of silver, these last couple weeks have been dull. A couple here, a couple there. Nothing like my first few boxes.
But in terms of NIFC, this week has been quite good! Other than a bunch of 2002-2005 and a 2007, the 2008 earlier this week was pretty exciting. And then, just when I thought it would be impossible to find... a 1987-S! Woohoo! Not in good condition, but I can finally say I found one. Even Franklins were easier to find than this little badboy. I just kept staring at it like the many 1981's I thought I could turn into an 87 if I looked at it long enough. Or the ever frustrating 1986 and 88's that taunted me. But now, I got one. Okay, now I can focus back on getting silvers.

I wonder if Dallas was one of the areas that Jackson Metals hit and/or dumped to?

Mycorb: My other problem is that I don't like taking the halves back to the bank. I try to do my part to get them back into active circulation. You can't just leave $50 in halves on the table for a restaurant bill, so I mainly use the halves for $10 transactions or less.
You can't? I just spend $50 in halves at Lowes! You just have to not care about pissing people off :)

"I just got finished searching 10000 coins or 5000 dollars face on half dollars. I amazed all the unc or bu coins out those 10 boxes. Tons of 1971 thru 2001 unused coins. So many I cant keep them will cash them into my bank. Lots of my bu coins were ruined where silver hunters defaced with markers . What an waste on bu coins. "
Those idiots don't think. See not marking those coins would have helped pull them out of the system of halves. Less clad will help the silver %, just like pull silver hurts it.
Every time I see a marked coin, I wish that marker skunked boxes for the rest of their life. You know something like only 1996 halves in every box forever.

More fun stuff about spending halves. I just used 4 to buy a loaf of bread... the cashier said she had never seen one. Well I let her see four.

Wow you guys are lucky. From where I am (Philippines) it's very difficult to secure you country's coin. I usually request relatives and friends visiting the USA to get me some and will have to wait 4-6 months for them to be back. Must be fun going through all those coins. Meanwhile its fun and informative too reading your contributions and feedbacks on the forum. Have not join any other forum except CCF.

Out of the last four boxes I've searched, I've come up with: (1) 40% (1) 71S (1) 02D (1) two tailed coin (1) gold plated with two dates counterstamped
I'm starting to get discouraged.
