Got $100 worth of halves today while at the bank. The teller said she didn't any rolled, but she'd give them to me loose. First glance, no obvious silver, but I'll go through them tonight. Being loose, I imagine these have been gone through, so I'm not expecting much. More change for allowances and tipping!

No.......I wouldn't assume they are from someones "dump station" !! I've got "loose batches" in the past that produced a few goodies !! Even spotted some in the tellers tray that were silver too !!....

Good point Eaglefoot. I got $100 out of the $180 in halves the teller had. Went through the bag 'o coins. No silver, but I found a very weird coin. It was a 1977 half. A closer look, revealed a 'S' mint mark. Naw it has to be a D...unless......it's out of a Proof set. Well, I broke out the magnifying glass and sho'nuf it is a 1977 S, but it's pretty beat up - nothing like I thought a proof should look. Someone probably broke it out of a collection for gas money or something.
I also found 12 very shiny, nearly perfect 1971 D's. Not a rare year, but these were in outstanding shape. Someone also probably put them back in circulation for some reason. I think I'll go back and buy the other $80 the teller had. They're might be some silver in there...or another 1977S
Also there were several very nice 2001D and P. Couple of them looked right out of a roll, nice and shiny will very little wear.
No major finds, but a couple of keepers.

Last year I found a 70's proof also......mine was in brilliant condition.....and was kind of "glowing" in the pile. That was from a "loose batch" too.....

Has anyone else noticed that the 1997D is especially shiny? Almost everyone I get really stands out in the pile.

Spotco found a lot of the 97's (P&D) in his box. I wonder what he has noticed?

Here are the pics of my 1977S. Overall, not a pretty coin, but it's a keeper

Eaglefoot: Thanks for the info on the 2005's. Have to tell The Red Book to get their act together.

Got $58 worth of halves from a local Wachovia I haven't been to before. Got home and noticed the 5 rolls (there were 16 more loose halves) all had either a line or an X on them. Upon opening them, I realized they had all been dumped... nothing good in them. Argh. Oh well. Didn't find anything in the loose halves either. Definitely not discounting loose halves to be useless though, I did find 53 40%s in 6 loose rolls a few weeks ago

Hey all-
I have gone through about $500 dollars of customer wrapped rolls over the last 2 weeks. I get $140 here, $80 there and have not been diong well. I shouldn't that bad, I have come up with 2-3 40% keepers so I am not getting completely skunked.
I will say, I walked into a First Federal Bank the other day and asked for halves. The teller opens her drawer and has about 20 halves, all having the tell tale sign of a silver rim, they looked like 40% to me. I asked for them and she said she was "saving them" for a customer.....GRRRRR........I told her, "I have $20 worth of halves inmy car, do you want to trade?" She said, "Nope."
At this point I try and negotiate down, "Well, can I just buy about $5 dollars of those ones?" She says, "Nope." It was VERY FRUSTRATING!
To say the least, I put my tail between my legs and went next door to the B of A and talked them into ordering me a few boxes, so the day was not compeltely lost I guess.
Anyway, should have some reports next week, as I have two shipments coming in from two different banks. I will try my luck at the flea market Saturday morning, and let you know if I get anything!
Good hunting to all!
