The lower grades of most Hard Times tokens tell us that they generally saw much circulation. Their wide circulation probably contributed to making folks of that era more politically aware. These tokens had to generate much conversation about politics, finances and such. Given that Jackson was reelected, the mass of tokens that ridiculed him, his brand of politics, may have ironically worked in his "anti-bank" favor with the common man back then.

ExoGuy, Excellent observations. I love Hard Times Tokens and Civil War Tokens for the stories they tell about those times through numismatics.

There are two mentioned in Mr. Bowers Book. I think this is the HT-66 but not to sure as I am new to these.
Can you help? Dar, Sorry for the delayed reply, but yes, your Phoenix Rising token is indeed HT-66. Note the position of the P in "PAYMENTS" in relation to the wreath compared to my HT-67 above. I love how worn down yours is, attesting to its acceptance in circulation as ExoGuy mentioned.

worldnumis, Nice original token that has seen a good deal of circulation. Gotta be the ugliest rendition of Miss Liberty that I've seen. I may try to get one of these in my collection for that reason alone!

Classi-Coins-------Good luck finding one. They are scarce to rare and don't come in nice condition. The HT-350 will probably run into four figures.

Quote: Gotta be the ugliest rendition of Miss Liberty that I've seen. Hey, ClassicCoins, this "beauty" on an HT-62 gets my vote for the ugliest Ms. Liberty, hands down! Even though she lacks the Leno jaw, IMHO she wins by more than a nose!

This one isn't my token. It's presently up for bids on ebay. My own piece, a VF+ is in the vault, and I've yet to get a pic of it. I wanted to illustrate what I think is the ugliest rendition of Lady Liberty, so I took the easier and quicker path to illustrate my point. Tuff piece, that HT-350. With so few examples known, condition matters far less.

Quote: Even though she lacks the Leno jaw The Jay Leno jaw! Thanks, ExoGuy! After 30 years of collecting coins I finally have a proper name for the Liberty figure on the Morgan dollar. HT-62 is real ugly too!

Excellent examples guy's and dome great information. I started by coming across one at my local Flea market and fell in love with them. The history of the Political times and the Nation, (as mentioned previously), in Hard times tokens keeps me looking for more. I will be collecting these as long as I am able.
