Thanks to those that made comments on my 7070.
I hope that I can upgrade some of my lower grade coins, get into the level that barryg is at.
barryg .. Dansco could use some of your ideas to update the album.
Oh .. not sure if I like how all the pictures turned out. I tried taking the album outside this afternoon. I don't think that was the best lighting to use ...

larsdog Very nice set .. There is nothing wrong with that set .. big accomplishment just to get all the holes filled. I consider the gold page as another set that some do and some don't. When I first filled all the holes in my set, I had quite a few lower grade coins .. well still do. Over the years when I find a nice coin at a good price I try to upgrade. Now all I have to do is live another 20 years .. so I can have 20 more years of upgrading .. then maybe I will have the set I want to have.

Quote:Dollars really do shoot up in price when you get to Seated Liberty. Mine's the most expensive coin in the album ($295, the rest are kinda cheap ) and it still looks bad. It was the cheapest Seated dollar I could find at the entire PNNA show a couple years ago. One thing that I noticed is there is not a huge jump going up each grade, at least not relative to the base price. Hopefully I can get VG or F dollars without feeling much more of a (relative) pinch. Quote: I'm not in the same orbit as GR58 or barryg, but here goes: I think you are in a better orbit than me. Very nice!

Very nice sets! :D Awesome to look at to help me visualize what my set (hopefully someday) will look like once it is finished!

I have re taken pictures of both my 7070 and 7100 multiple times but can never get the look I want so I still have my older versions out there. In re taking the pictures, I also tried taking them outside but didn't care for how they turned out in terms of how the true color of the coins didn't seem to come through. With outside light. I think you definitely need to correct for white balance. Sunlight has a color temperature in the 5500-6000k range (more blue/cooler) while indoor light tends more towards 2500k-3000k (more orange/warmer). Still want to get my pictures updated someday when I can devote the time to getting the setup correct.

Just sitting here looking at some of these collection.
They really are nice in all grades.
I was looking at some of the coins I might like to upgrade, and looking up the prices. Many of the coins would take hundreds if not a thousand to even get to XF/AU grades.
I have been thinking more lately, that we have to be happy with the sets we have put together.

Well, I made a tough decision last night. I've decided to abandon my Intercept Shield type set album.
The problem came because while I had no problem cracking 20th century coins out of their graded slabs, after I did one for a 19th century coin, well, I felt terrible about it. It just felt wrong to me. I realized that I can't keep cracking slabbed coins, and graded slabs are what I intend to use for the 19th century coins since my grading skills are still pretty weak.
So last night I order a 20th & 21st Centry Type Set Album from Whitman which is on its way and I'm going to finish my modern coin type set with that.
I'm still going to build a 19th century type set, but I am going to leave them slabbed and in a case.
Is my decision strange? I'm just curious if anyone else thinks this makes any sense at all.

If cracking out older slabbed coins isn't your thing, then don't do it. I have never cracked a slabbed coin yet, although I am sure they day will come...

I cracked one slab for my 7070 and one Wheat penny. Those are the only two slabs I ever cracked.
