A new pcgs 70 set just went up by a new 70 seller I think. Started it at .99 but I think they may be making a mistake putting up for 10 days bit then again it might not matter either. 121704541428Jbuck, look at his other items. He's on the high side but he's got some very nice ikes for you to drool over

I don't have a PCGS Membership - I have not sent coins in to be graded- I currently have the box of these from the mint unopened is it worth sending these in to be graded? Sounds like if you get a MS70 is sure is. I thought they would grade them and put the First Strike on them if the box was unopened anytime after the 30 days.
I guess I don't see how it would pay to send these in -

NGC Early/First Release: they have to RECEIVE the coins by the cut off date...no sealed packages...number of ER/FR coins is fixed after these coins are graded
PCGS First Strike: they have to be POSTMARKED by the cut off date...sealed packages SHIPPED BY THE MINT before the cut off date will be accepted after that date. number of FS coins will continue to rise for quite a while as future sealed boxes are submitted
FYI: dude on another forum sent in 5 sets (NGC) and got 3 RP 70's and 2 Medal 70's back...do NOT expect these prices to hold this level for very long....I'm sure MCM has a BUNCH and are just waiting to determine an entry market price

Fox, are you submitting the RPs in the plastic capsule or cracked and in a mylar flip?

I sent in six sets in their OGP because I thought those medals looked fine...I sent in seven RP's in their Mint capsules. All went out yesterday...
I decided to add a few obviously not 70's to the mix since the graded coins seem to be doing OK even in 69 grade. Thought it was worth a $20 bet...
Note: I did open a few capsules because defects that I was sure were on the coin turned out to be on the capsule...
Edited to add: before the HH police rip me a new one this submission was a combined submission with my son and a friend (real)

Well I will keep my 3 sets in their OGP. Money just got tight this month and I had to decide on either grading my 3 Truman CC or purchasing 2 Eisenhower CC.
I already know I made the right decision.

Just an FYI comparison
recent (yesterday) sales show NGC and PCGS 69 sets selling for right around the same price with NGC having a slight advantage
Sets with graded medal:
PCGS: $223.50...$204.50
NGC: $227.75, $213.45, $243.95
We won't discuss 70's until there are more of them out there
Yesterday's raw sets ranged from $150 to $179

I checked it out, this is definitely not a piece of fuzz or hair trapped in the capsule. It's definitely struck in the coin. any comments?

I dunno, looks like copper colored from a scratch maybe. For this kind of diagnosis much better macro pics are needed. Do you have a 10x loupe? If so put it in between the camera and coin like a magnifying glass and zoom in but it needs to be crisp and clear. Also, since this is a release discussion thread I also suggest making it it's own thread in modern variety & errors. That's where those guys hang out

Give me a hint where I am supposed to be looking You can use a regular camera but crop the general area and enlarge it before posting (and give some landmarks). Obviously image when removed from the capsule

I have a 16x loupe and it is very hard to get a clear shot of this with the poor lighting I have to work with. I will try to get a better picture that is clearer and try to crop it and indicate the location. Thank you very much for your help.

Fox, look on the U and you'll see a threadlike scribble or scratch. A page or two back he has another pic too

You can see where it is actually stamped on the top of the side of the U and curves down in a C shape.

Likely is a piece of lint. So much of it floats around in the mint that it is extremely rare to find coins that have NO lint marks on them. The third party grading services don't disqualify it from 70, unless it is an obvious blemish. 70's often mean more money for the grading services. If you were a dealer submitting it, they would definitely overlook. It is up to chance whether they care to downgrade or not.

Weird, I just posted this and can not find it. Apologies if there is rouge post somewhere.
I just received my two sets from the mint today and am seriously considering joining NCG and submitting them.
Would these count as 4/5 coins for the modern grading tier or are these handled separately?
