Picked this up at my local coin shop this morning. Been friends with this owner for a while and he always is willing to deal with me. Makes it a fun morning.

Would appreciate your thoughts on a grade for this one. Thank you in advance...

Another question....

There seems to be some doubling on the reverse and a strange ( Cud) in the tail of the letter 'A' that my arrow points to. Can anyone tell me whether this is doubling and what the A Cud might be?

Thanks..

I am terrible a coppers but by the strength of "WE" and the remaining detail of the ribbon highpoint I put it at EF-40

Beautiful coin with great eye appeal and color btw.

This coin just gets up to XF40 IMHO, but it is a VF35. The A " Cud" would not be a Cud at all Ceausescu Cuds involve the rim. That is some sort of Die Deterioration or a die chip. I couldn't tell you if it was a doubled die or not.

Vf-35, agreed. Is it just me, or does the color look not quite right?

EF40, details, die chip, cleaned/somewhat retoned. I bet the slight shelf double on the two indicated letters + that die chip are probably diagnostic of a particular die variety; these coins had as many varieties as large cents, and possibly even more.

I'd say it's an attractive coin in a grade that's difficult to come by -- lots of these are either AU, on one side, or low grade with environmental damage & porosity/corrosion issues on the other side. Yours would look good in a type set. :)
