I believe parking last year was $15 & for those of you driving the Rosemont exit off the toll road does not have an attendant so if you don't have an ipass you're going to have to pay the toll online within 4 days.

I'll be there -- probably several days. Quote: I was planning on bringing some stabbed coins there to see if any of the dealers would be interested in them. Is this a good idea or do dealers frown upon that?
I spoke with a dealer last week who was planning on doing exactly that. The worst they can do is tell you to get lost. Quote: Don't forget to make a CCF ribbon for your badge What's a CCF ribbon? Would any of you be interested in meeting -- probably in the lobby -- for a group photo and a chance to meet face to face? I know we will all be there on different days and we all want to see as much of the show as possible but I was thinking that it would be fun to meet up for 15 minutes. We could just pick a time and whoever wants to could show up. Or we could set a time for every day ... just for a brief how-do-you-do......

There are a variety of ribbons available to stick below your badge holder. Ranging from identifying yourself as an ANA member, life member, to membership in various clubs, awards, etc. I'm suggesting adding something to identify yourself as a forum member so people who notice can say Hi! Of course, if you just like to pick fights, you'll probably get a punch in the snozz

BStrauss3 Great idea. I will bring an index card to tape or staple onto the badge.

I'll be there tomorrow -- late morning and all afternoon. And I made a card to attach to my conference badge with a big CCF on it. Hope to see some of you there!

Quote: not too mention that is has to be all union members who are the set up too right? lol Odd you should mention that. A few years back at a show in the New York area they did have a union insisted that all the loading and unloading of the dealers vehicles had to be done by the union. John Burns had something like 60 crates of book that they took from his van put on a cart and wheeled to his table. After the show they put them on the cart and wheeled them back to his van. for that he received a bill for around $4,000. All the other dealers received bills in the $1,000 to $2,000 range as well.

That sounds like a good reason for dealers to not participate in future NY shows. Your story is not an exaggeration. We have run into issues like this doing equipment installs. The techs we send have to be union or locally contracted (otherwise they can only supervise/direct). The techs cannot unload or move anything, that has to be contracted locally.

couple of things---
1- yea the unions in Chicago are just, ehhh, horrible in the sense that no one can touch this or that unless it belongs to their union, I have seen it with my own eyes and heard it, even seen union guys turn things into confrontations over who does what and why. I run the chicago marathon now for a decade and we go to the McCormick place for the health expo and let me just say the amount of union stuff there ehhhh *rolls eyes* life in the big city as they say I guess...
2- I was thinking of going the last day if I can arrange my affairs this week, I would be up for a face to face meeting. Right now I am not too sure how things are going here time wise.
3- There are several dealers I would love to stop buy/by lol ... that I noticed after reading the list of dealers that will be present.
I hope everyone that has gone has a had a fun time! I am hoping to fit it in, I did not realize how once again it rolled around again...

I went last year for the first time as our club chartered a bus for the members. I had a great time and was dumbfounded by the 99.5% slabbed inventory. The CSNS show that our club chartered a bus for this spring was a little better in terms of a "collectors" show instead of an "investors" show in terms of making a purchase but everyone likes to go to the Ferrari dealership and dream (AKA ANA show) I am trying not to spend any more money on coins and the show coincidentally falls during the time I have to run the show at work so I had to pass this year.

I was there all afternoon and had a great time. A friend of mine from my local club gave a talk about Fantasy Coin Collecting (it's a game like fantasy football).
I got to meet The Penny Lady: Charmy Harker and she was absolutely delightful and gracious. That was a real treat for me since I drool over the pictures on her website.
I'm not sure I'm going tomorrow. But I will be going back. Maybe I'll see some of you guys there.

The ANA show in Portland was good enough for me this year. Chicago has become way too expensive .

In today's half day, I never got into the high rent district where Charmy hangs (I only made it to the 1400s, not yet to the carpeted booths), but yes she's a lovely person. I did however meet Amanda Varner of Alhambra Coin ( http://www.alhambracoin.com/the-experts, she signed up here but hasn't posted - she's active on another one of the boards and very helpful). In person she's even nicer. Didn't have what I was looking for so she referred me to a friend across the way!

The $13 daily parking fee sure hurts the wallet. They sure have a lot of empty space in that structure was the first thing I noticed once you get to the second level. I managed to lose my parking ticket and was wondering how I was going to pay it. Little Did I know, they have a exit attendant who reprinted my ticket and took the $13. I'm not an ANA member, anyone know what the badges are for/from? Are they just to signify who is an ANA Member, dealer and other coin groups? I just got the orange bracelet. With this being my first show, the first thing I noticed was the high price of everything including the concessions. Only thing I got was several world coins and a couple Reichsmarks which I hope aren't fake. I Don't know too much about them but always have wanted to obtain them. I assume since they are dealers at a show, they must know genuine from fakes. I was thinking about going to several days of the coin show, but considering the parking fee/admission (not sure if its daily?), probably wont.

WARNING to anybody driving into the Chicago area.
The price of gas jumped about from around 2.89 to 3.69 per gallon overnight. There was a problem at the BP refinery and we all have to chip in to fix it.
If you see gas for less than $3 -- get it.
