Not sure if this has been posted before and I am sorry if it has been.

I'm just curious what kinds of collectors we have here.

Personally I buy quantity and keep everything, I have never sold or traded any coin I have bought. I have world coins and US coins and same goes for both, I keep them all. I will at times buy lots of 250, 500 or even 1000 coins at a time and sort through them just to separate them by denomination and style (like coronet head/braided head/IHP/LWC etc...). I just recently bought a few slabbed coins, my very first ones.

I simply love the hunt, I have never CRH'd (mainly because only small town local banks exist around me) but I love hunting through hoards of random coins and holding onto the ones I like. For example I have over 400 1950's wheat pennies just sitting in a sandwich bag... (I had so many LWC that I sorted them by decade.)

Anyways, I'm just curious how ya'll collect..

I have collected many series over a long lifetime, and usually I sell most everything at some point so I can start learning and collecting in a different area. This to me is the best part about collecting - starting anew, and having enough money to afford new things.

Best answer to what type of collectors we have here: knowledgeable and helpful collectors.

As for me, I collect silver and gold coins mainly. I really enjoy collecting old US gold coins the most. About half my collection by value is old US gold coins, mainly Liberty Head coins, nothing of note, just common coins.

I also enjoy watching silver be taken out of the money around the world, in particular in Mexican coins. I love old foreign silver coins. Very economical in my neck of the woods too.

I do collect type coins as well (older copper and oddball denominations).

I have a couple of ancients. When I do look to buy this is where I spend about half of my time lately. Not buying much, but looking a lot and learning a little even.

I have some bullion coins, Silver Eagles, Maple Leafs (Leaves?), and Libertads. Some generics, but I don't enjoy them and will sell them when silver price is right. Only bought them when nothing was available at the LCS and didn't want to leave empty handed.

My favorite coin is my only non coin, my avatar. That is a UN monetary pattern for one world currency. Only 750 issued in silver. It has the flags of the US, Russia, China, Great Britain, and France on the obverse.

I haven't attempted many sets. I do have a nice Ike set and a few Franklin and Roosevelt sets also. I also enjoy the silver proof sets. I have all those for the State Quarters and I am missing a couple of the ATB silver proof sets but will wait for the prices to come down there.

I'm a junk&bulk buyer. My motivation and devotion lies in the amazing deals I do from time to time (silver well under spot almost weekly!). I rarely do quality purchases, instead I occationally end up with my desired coin a while later for a great price. That being said, the coins I do want are rarely very valuable.

Other than that, I'm a modern world coin type collector with some extra interest in Swedish and US coinage. I've never persuited a date set and I rarely see slabs here.

Here at CCF, we have collectors from all different parts of the world, and each member has their own collecting strategy.

The general rule of thumb for my collection is to keep all the coins I have purchased/acquired over the years, for one simple reason. They were bought because I liked them, and I could not part with them no matter what anyone offered. I search out problem free keepers, ones that you could not replace for one reason or another. So I kind of have a large quantity of good quality pieces.

I have what could be called hoarding tendencies. I have been a CRHer for several years, and have accumulated about 60 lbs of copper cents, and hundreds of pre-1960's nickels!

That being said, I have sold a few coins over time that I either don't like or don't collect.

I've only been formally collecting about a year but I think my style has changed. When I first started I wanted to get anything and everything. I'd rather get a larger quantity of coins than focusing on good condition ones. Now that I have more experience I have been trying to get PCGS/NGC slabs in great condition. Unfortunately I've found getting good deals are few and far between. I pretty much am only buying MS coins unless I find stuff CRH (I still like to go through cents and nickels).

My main focuses are on odd type US coins such as Half Cents, Two Cents, and Half Dimes. I also have quite the Kennedy half collection going too. I do collect a little bit of everything that strikes my fancy, but generally all my larger purchases are odd types.

I have cheap tastes so I can afford quality and quantity. I am slowly moving away from coins and pre-confederate tokens and going almost exclusively into municipal trade tokens.

Yup, I am a cheap collector.
Rest in Peace

1. Just US coins in general
2. All modern US coins.
3. All really old US coins
4. old Foreign coins
5. Modern Foreign coins
6. Error coins
7. Toned coins
8. Counterfeit coins
9. Album to fill collectors
10. Bulk coin collectors.
11. Silver coins
12. Gold Coins
13. All coins in general
14. This list could go on and on and on and on an.......
There are just to many different types of coin collectors to list. Your original question was just how many different types of collectors are here. Yet what is here is only a fraction of what is out there as coin collectors. When it comes to collectors, each type of collector of each type of item gets somewhat excessive. Look at a car show. Notice how many different types of car collectors are there. And with an item like a coin that has been in existence for zillions of years, maybe not really, just to many different types. However, that would be a good topic for you to investigate. Let us know what you may come up with for a list.

That would be why I asked about the folks here at CCF. I obviously understand that there are millions of different types. Sorry if you got confused. I may be new to this forum but I am not new to collecting as a hobby. I just never moved out of the beginner stages in all these years.

Also, very interesting guys! I love knowing and learning who collects what and why they might collect those.

started out with one of everything (world type set). trimmed 3500 coins down to one from each country (300 thank you very much!).

now working mainly on canadian colonial tokens, 1800-1850ish. don't care for much if it isn't 100 years old. (will dive into ancients eventually)

In the handy list posted above, I guess I'm type 3, 4, and 12, for the most part.

I started out some years ago looking through change and putting away a few interesting coins. I just started seriously collecting a few months ago. I have a small collection of Canadian NCLT coins and I add a few coins a month. However, my main focus is ancient coins and in particular coins of the 12 Caesars. I have coins from 6 of these rulers so I have 6 left to go. I have added several other interesting ancient coins outside of the 12 Caesars but I have a total of 11 ancient coins. I cannot see myself getting above 20 or 30 ancients until I finish the 12 Caesars and start another focus. Who knows, maybe the Greek coins of Alexander will be next. I collect only what I am interested in and those interests tend to be rather narrowly defined. I know that there are many ancients collectors that have more than 1000 coins and those who collect NCLT coinage who own several hundred coins but I do not see myself walking that path. I like my focussed collections.

I buy and sell bulk stuff that I already have to buy more quality and rarer pieces. I started off doing coins and got kinda burned out on them and drifted into U.S. paper money and haven't looked back. I sold off a lot of coins to fund that new focus. I still enjoy uncirculated early wheat cents, as well as nice wood grain wheat cents. I have always enjoyed wheats, hence my username here.

I collect MS € commemorative coins, I'm also putting together type sets of € form circulation. That was my start at the hobby. Now, among others, I found much joy in silver coins; mainly Austro-Hungarian (Franz Joseph I) and Latvia's first republic (it is a small set I hope I'll finish this week with 'key date' 5 lati 1932 :) ). In mid-near future, I'm thinking about expanding also to US coins, but for now I'm still mainly reading and learning about those.

Edit: Oh, and also Euro error coins I find in circulation. Fascinating how much you learn from researching errors
