The price of gas jumped about from around 2.89 to 3.69 per gallon overnight. There was a problem at the BP refinery and we all have to chip in to fix it.
Ah, good ole Whiting.

At least it was not a fire this time.

You may ignore the previous warning about the gas prices. A few places jacked their prices and quickly knocked them back down when the news got out.

Now, per TV news, the price will go up 25 during the next week. Big Difference.

Well I went to that coin show at Rosemont today. Got there as they were opening at 10AM. Had to park in their lot across the street and then had to walk what appeared to be a few blocks to get to the show. Met someone on the way there that told me he was there yesterday and was dissapointed due to so many dealers not set up yet. He did mention that since I lived so close, why not just take a cab. DUH. Never thought of that.
Today the place was wall to wall dealers and really not a lot of customers at all. I was there from 10AM to about 2PM and when I left I was really happy. The reason was I left with almost as much money as when I got there. And not a real lot of customers for the sellers at least not yet. Maybe tomorrow. Bought two Mercury dimes and some plastic flips from the Wizzard Coin supply stand. I did get my shoes shined there which did cost me $5 and a $2 tip. $13 to park and $4 to get in with a coupon downloaded from the net.
One dealer had a coin I wanted and when I asked the price I almost laughed. Way, way just ridiculous. Almost any dealer I asked about a coin was the same. Just way over priced. I continued looking for a dealer with normal prices and/or someone that could be sort of chewed down but generally prices were firm and just way, way to much.
As I said, shows like that make me happy when I leave due to now spending to much money.

Went yesterday (Wednesday) after work just to scout as I think I'll be going longer today (with more comfortable shoes). Funny part of the day was when I went to the rest area and bought a drink, went to the cashier and as she handed me my change asked, "With this coin show, are your customers checking out their change?" She replied a lot were checking out the quarters and dimes. I let her know that it's because those coins were made of silver at one point so we're treasure hunting. Now she's going to be searching herself.

She also did comment she's received way more $1 coins today than previous shows.

First off you're correct this is not the kind of show where you're going to find a lot of 25 cent bargain boxes. The minimum table price is something like $450. That's why lot of dealers even the less expensive zones split tables.

But there are couple...

As you walk in go all the way they left and then all the way to the back.

* Mark's Coins out of Dallas has his usual 12 or 16 tables with books of G-VG-F everything.
* couple aisles over is West Coast Coins out of Toledo, OH. Revick didn't bring EVERYTHING, but he did bring a lot.

now slide along the back wall past the shoeshine stand to where the room opens up.

(Wizard is on yournleft all the way back)

The first aisle or two are ancients and currency and then you are in the land of relatively cheaper tables. You have 50 or 100 choices...

And many are in the thousands per table. It's not just the table rental that makes the coin prices outrageous, if the dealers are from out of town, they have to rent rooms and if around that area, prices are also horrible. Then too there is that thing called food. Also, in that area excessive. Transportation for dealers to get there too adds to the cost of the coins. Throw in a Martini or even a beer afterwords, a few snacks, etc. and now the prices of coins get way, way out of normal. Every thing that a dealer has to output, goes into the prices of their coins.
So as I said, the one good thing about shows like this is I save money since I seldom buy anything there.

I'm on a plane, having left the show after 2.5 days. My fitbit has me at 7.77mi. Figure about 2.8 of that is the R/T to from my hotel. I'm figuring 22 or 23 miles of walking for the three days (won't know for sure until my fitbit syncs with the base station).

Man did I have a blast.

Couple newps for my Coins in circulation as of 11Feb1861 set...

I pulled the trigger on an 1858S Seated Liberty 10c in PCGS VF35 CAC...
And an 1852 $5 in VG8 CAC

Found a couple items for my 3cs grade set

Sold a bunch of dups and bad purchases (see, I'm no longer a hoarder - I've sold stuff)

I went yesterday -- it is exhausting -- but a lot of fun.

Going tomorrow for my third day there. I still haven't seen it all, or even most of it, really. But I met some great people, saw some friends from local clubs and it's been a blast.

Went today with my visiting family for my moms bday. Got there around 1-ish a lot of people were already gone stayed until 3. Prices were expensive for the most part, but my mom got me an XF 1857-O Seated Liberty dime for my 7070 (only need a capped bust and done with my dimes :D) for $50, and a 2006 and 2009 silver quarter proof set for $17 and $20 respectively for my State Quarter album. Not terrible prices for those so seems like being at the show last minute ain't too bad a thing. ;) My mom got some unc steel cents and a new album for her Wheat cent collection and my sister even (not into coins before) bought a 2015 silver panda for $25. Then we went to Ikea. :) very nice family day!

One dealer I know well emailed me and wanted to know if I wanted some coins. He said business at the show was so slow he needs to reach out to steady customers to help make up for his losses due to expenses at this show. So many people had fun, got to see lots of great coins, met new people, etc. Yet not many of the dealers came out so great. I only went one day due to just to expensive for parking, entrance fees, etc. I'll stick to local shows to buy coins.

A sincere thank you to everyone who shared their experiences. It's been almost 6 months since I've been to a show, and I'm starting to vibrate.

I was intrigued by the mention that there were 1-2 rows of ancients. Most of the shows I have been to have only had 2-3 tables where any ancients were for sale. Most of my ancients purchases have therefore been online.
