I went to Home Depot and bought some black PVC tubing and couplers. The 1 1/2" couplers have an inside diameter of about 1 1/2" and are 2" in height. The tubing is 1 1/2" and have an inside diameter of 1 3/8". I can cut the tubing to any height. What size (1 1/2" inside or 1 3/8" inside) would work best for Morgan dollars in a PCGS slab? And a starting height would be 1"?

Can't answer the questions Ham...you'll just need to experiment with heights and diameters. Publish some pics and we'll help you to decide...Ray

This is my first attempt with the black PVC tubes. I used (2) 2" tubes (4 inches from the slab) for this shot and did some corrections in DPP. The download is darker than my original. Sorry forgot to crop.

Much more of the "axial" lighting look. But I can see some reflections off the tube, creating light sources at unwanted points. I'd suggest 2 things:
- use shorter tubes. maybe just one 2" section? - flocking the inside of the tube to eliminate the reflections

hello ham you say you have a home depot. ham ray is right shorten your tube a little. also buy a can of flat black spray paint. spay the inside of the tube. that will cut all reflections. some stores sell it as flat black military grad. the paint is non reflective. that why the military use it. you are getting there that image is wow like it

I shot these 2 with only (1) 2 inch PVC tube. I like these images better. What say you? I am getting too many choices of this coin. If this is what you think is the best result, I can delete most of the rest. Both obverse and reverse are shown.

Sorry, but somehow the cropping tool is not working as it has in the past.

Ham...did you take those one right after the other? Why did you crop the one but not the other? Looks like you also re-set the white balance between shots? I can't really make any conclusions based on those shots.

Ray, I did not shoot one right after the other. The shot with no tube was taken some time ago. I'll try to shoot the comparison tomorrow with no adjustments in DDP except the cropping. I did figure out what I was doing wrong with the crop.

I found some time to compare the 2 shots. First is with the tube, and the second is without the tube. Did some post processing on both.

Did you do the same PP on both? The one with tube looks better to me, but it may just be the result of different PP.
