Good morning from Canada,
I scan coins at 300kb in order to stay within the lfile-size limit. Would the viewer get a better image if I scan at 1200 dpi and use the automatic file-size reducer?
Grateful for advice

Better idea might be to pose this question to the photography area of CCF. I'll see what the mods say.

I would say "yes", but you might get the same results at 600dpi and using the reducer. If you start with a blurry image and reduce it, it will remain blurry. But if you start with a sharp image and reduce it, it probably won't look much better than reducing a *really* sharp image.

Maybe try both 600dpi and 1200dpi and seeing what the results look like after reducing (you get a preview that you can download and inspect before you attach/post it).

The viewer will get the DPI of their screen. The DPI scanned at, or the DPI of the image file, is basically irrelevant for viewing on a screen as long as you scan at over 100 or so they will all look the same. It's very relevant for printing however.

Thank you. I had thought-imagined?- that if I were to send at 1200 dpi the viewer could enlarge it. In doing so the dpi would decrease and eventually at the dpi of the screen, the picture would be large and thus more useful. I may be completely wrong; I usually am according to me wife.
