Jim, Those 2005Ps are very uncommon in circulation so you might want to hang onto it, especially if it's in good shape. The mint sets from 2005 aren't likely to be rare any time soon, so it's not going to be worth much more than 50 cents but it is a good find. You could also send it to me Good luck with your roll hunting!

Patrick, Thanks. It is in good shape. It has nice cartwheel luster but I assume its probably AU-58 or so. I don't think it is BU. I'll trade you my 2005 P for a 40% silver clad. Maybe you will break even one day.

I don't know for sure but was told the NIFC's were sold in bags to dealers who cherrypicked them and dumped their rejects into the system. I have found alot of them- so many I couldn't afford to keep them and continue hunting. Once I got 10 ($20) hand rolls, 5 were solid 2007D and 5 were 2007P. I just keep the proofs, any 87's I find, and silver- and any error that just jumps out at ME. I keep the foreign coin too only because I don't want to throw it back- I got a 500 peso once, now if a peso is worth .09 then that coin is worth $45, if I ever hear of someone going to Mexico I'll try to send it with them and see ifn I can get a couple silver Libertads out of it LOL. I don't know where you huys are finding so much silver in the boxes of half dollars. I go thru them, and to date have gotten THREE '68's! That is $4 or $5,000 dollars. I cn't get a roll, or a few rolls. It is order two boxes at a crack, and go thru them. I do note that the '78-D is very hard to find. It is the only roll I need for a full roll/date set from Denver. Still working on the "P" riolls. I don't "recycle" the "P's". Too hard to find. Even the "Pony Express" carried more "P's" than the banks "Out West"! Dick

AWESOME UPDATE !! Here is my final tally for $988.00 worth of halves searched. 6 - 1964 (4 of them in excellent condition) 1 - 1966 5 - 1967 5 - 1968 2 - 1969 1 - 1971 "S" mint proof ( and in a mirror proof near pristine condition too, only a few contact marks on it ! so shiny it was glowing! ) THAT'S "NINETEEN" SILVER PIECES IN $988.00 SEARCHED !! OMG ! I am on cloud nine here. That's a great percentage too I think isn't it ? This is so dang exciting ! And $900.00 of these were given to me by the bank LOOSE ! Only the first $100.00 were in rolls. Don't know if I can expect the same success trying other banks, but you know what..... I'm NOW HOOKED ! I love this ! Wonder what the success rate would be with quarters ? So..... i'll expect my compliments and analyzing to begin ! Ha Ha LoL

Congratulations eaglefoot! Those numbers seem to be pretty good. Some are averaging less and others slightly more. Also cool about the proof! I still haven't found one of those but I'm going to keep looking.
I haven't tried looking through dime or quarter rolls. From what I've read on this forum you tend to find silver less often in those. Still, it is a good way to fill holes or upgrade your collection. And it's all about the thrill of the hunt, isn't it?

Eaglefoot: Congratualations on some good finds! In my opinion, do not waste your time on Dimes and Quarters. The halves are where you will get a decent %silver. You might go through multiple boxes of quarters or dimes before getting a single silver piece.
Happy hunting!

I have $1,000 in halves coming this week. As soon as I am thru them, I will post the results for comparison. Congrats on your finds, Eaglefoot. Jim

So then it doesn't sound like searching Quarters or Dimes is worth the time ? Certainly coin for coin the value would be less obviously because of the mere "weight" of the .50 cent piece versus a .25 or .10 ........ any others have success with finding them though....... I don't want to search $1,000.00 worth of quarters or dimes and only find one or two !! (if that's the case) Anyway..... I can't wait to find me some more "batches" !

Hi; my first post in a thread! Anyway, Mint Marq, I live close to a medium size (250K population) city, and I have been buying halves from the larger banks downtown. I've had very little success with rolls that are not bank-wrapped. All of the silver I have found have been in bank-wrapped rolls. Still trying to accumulate enough $$$ to purchase a box. Another month or so should do it! Good luck hunting to all!
