I came very close today to '' falling off the wagon '' So to speak. my coin buying addiction almost got the best of me. I was going to buy some Mercs & walkers from an online dealer sight unseen. I would have been braking one of my own rules. I have this itchy feeling to buy coins, I hope I can hold out until a local show coming up.
Anybody else been there, done that ?

Well you may be breaking your own rules but you need to stop braking at online dealers. LOL

Everyone has been there.

Step 1: When was the last time you sat down with a microscope or loupe and just took a look at the coins in your collection?
Step 2: what all did you have to move to get EVERY coin in your collection out and look at them?
Step 3: Did you remember to put your coins back where your collection usually resides?
Step 4: go watch a movie because you are probably now too tired to visit online coin dealers, so take a rest and maybe a nap.
Step 5: Repeat tomorrow.

Go to your local bank and bring this grocery list with you:

4 boxes of Pennies
2 boxes of Nickels
a pinch of Dimes
a quarter box of Quarters

If you don't find anything, you aren't out any money. No regret
If you do find something...Do the happy dance and repeat!!

There's these pills called coinboxone and coinadone. Go to your doctor and tell him about your addiction, he should prescribe one of them

First of all, good for you because 'almost' giving in to the urge means you were successful at avoiding the purchase.

I am guilty of becoming a bidiot on the bay. Luckily there were bigger bidiots out there so I dodged that bullet.

Here is where I have lost self-control. Coin shows! I go with a list. I shop carefully and then....I don't know -- my medication wears off, ADD rules and anything shiny -- oh heck -- ANYTHING will capture my attention and I spend/over-spend on stuff I know nothing about.

At the last small show I went to, I bought 2 large cents. I know NOTHING about large cents. I may have spent a lot on fakes. I know the dealer and I don't think he'd knowingly sell me fakes -- but I feel foolish whenever I think about it.

Anyway, because of that I was extremely careful at the ANA show.

This is just my opinion but I don't even buy old coins. It just doesn't feel the same as having one that was given to me or found in circulation. Plus I save money that way.

The only way to break a coin addiction is to buy some Turkish coins and put them in the refrigerator.
