I posted yesterday that my CCF Secret Santa arrived - and what a wonderful gift it was! The 1998 Marshall Islands Space Shuttle Discovery $5 coin in the original folder - we watched that launch in person!! The US Mint's Westward Discovery Nickel series Coin set! Six super nickles - the proofs are stunning! The bicentennial 1976-S Proof JFK half - that beauty's going in my 7070! A wicked PCGS PR69DCAM 1976-S silver Washington quarter, too! I must've been a good boy this year! Many thanks, Secret Santa! Happy Christmas, and Merry Everything to everyone in the CCF!

Quote: I have tracked the package I sent. It says that it cleared customs in Canada on the 17th. Hope it gets Canada post isn't nearly as quick as USPS, but they have NEVER let me down (knocks on wood). I just received the package! I hope I don't get in trouble for opening it right away (it is Christmas Eve afterall!) 1885 "Indian head" penny '00 Barbados Quarter 2015 Liberty "Dollar" (1oz silver) ... and as if that wasn't over the top, I got a package of elusive chocolate JFK dollar's and mints in a little $100 wrapper! Wow! - Thank you very much! I did not realize that the Barbados quarter had changed from the windmill(?) design that I currently have!? I actually have started collecting American coins, and again the penny is my favorite denomination, but they are a littl tough to come by these days on account of the penny no longer circulating here(!) - This Indian Head penny is my first (I actually lingered at last months numismatic meeting to bid on a small lot of Indian head pennies!) This silver dollar is really cool to (but at the moment I know nothing about these). ... ok I was going to try to post some pictures, but my boy is trying to get into it all - I'll post pictures in a bit!

I think the 2015 coin is an ASE (American Silver Eagle), the US's bullion round. The obverse uses Adolph Weinmann's 1916 Walking Liberty design, and I believe the reverse was designed in 1986 by John Mercanti, but I'll have to check on the designer.

Here's the picture of my gift! And proof that I really do also collect American coins. I just didn't add any of it to my "want" list in time (and I didn't really know where to start...) - but in the end my secret santa hit it out of the park!; . and here's the little goober who was trying to get into them(!) :)

This looks to be correct; I just did some research, it looks like several private mints make coins which resemble this, the key distinguishing features are the dollar face value, the year under liberty, and the mint mark to the right of the eagle (and the lack of the 'w' mark on the eagle's left side). This is a very nice looking coin; I may have the opportunity to buy some older American silver coins, and this design 50 cent piece is among them.

Quote: I may have the opportunity to buy some older American silver coins, and this design 50 cent piece is among them. Yes, the Walking Liberty half is a very beautiful coin. On a related note, I plan on expanding my Canadian collection soon, which is currently limited to a 1901 10c piece, a 1903-H 5c 'fish scale', a 1967 mint set and a 1968 quarter. I would like to start on a few of the earlier 50c pieces. Quote:Love the "silver" chocolate nuggets too They look a bit dull- you sure you're not eating lead nuggets?

My secret Santa arrived today, all the way from California. I have never been that far away from home myself! Its a great silver proof set from the States. The coins look awesome and I didn't have a set like that before. I need to say thank you a lot Tony Santa who took all the trouble to post that to Turkey. It appears like the case was craked slightly during transport, it doesn not bother the appearance of the set, maybe for long term storage I have to put the coins inside aclyric capsules - I am open to suggestions about that. Once again, many thanks Santa for the generous gift. Happy Christmas to everyone.

Merry Christmas to all you Santas!
Santa gave me some nice US Admin of the P.I and republic of the P.I. coins including a nice Silver 50 Centavo! There was also a 2.5 Escudo Portuguese coin that will be going straight into my odd denominations collection!
Thank you and Feliz Navidad!

I had a 1992 Proof Set I got as a kid. It cracked in about 99 and the coins were fine. Just this year I broke it open and encapsulated them just because I didn't like the look of the crack but the coins were still in perfect shape.

I know that I posted that my Secret Santa package had arrived already. I was, ahem...well..wrong. As it turns out, my sister in law, actually ordered a numismatic related gift from Etsy. As many of you experience personally, family members don't really understand our afflication. So, I KNEW somebody from my family would never purchase a numismatic gift for me. Well, I was wrong. BUT....today....without a doubt, Secret Santa from Pennsylvania, DEFINITELY arrived. Received a vintage RedBook (1973) and a super 40% Proof Ike! THANK YOU SECRET SANTA!
