They rarely get hot coins from the RCM, a few years ago was on wait list for 5 penny set, they seem to get none as the alert me never occurred and later telephone conversation was they didn't get their allocation. The RCM probably has more than a hundred dealers, what are they going to allocate 2 each, what a stupid distribution idea for this coin.

Does this listing mean that embargo, that The Coin Shoppe owner told, has been removed?

If I remember it was sometimes in mid December, no one else is advertising, so one can conclude the Dec. date is correct. I think most dealers will keep their 1 or 2 units unless the price goes insane.

Ladybug had 5000 mintage with 1 oz silver. Voyageur has twice the silver and less than 50% mintage.

Quote: If to put aside the hype factor and high re-sell value, but to follow the craftsmanship, I would rank the coin after (affordable and for this year): ***Masks set - this is true piece of art ***Big Nickel / Big 50 cent piece - designs that never die I have both the Big Nickel and Big 50 cent and they are much better looking in detail than the Voyager coin. So its puzzling why these coins are selling at issue price or slightly higher than issue. Yet the Voyager coin at a higher mintage of 2200 vs 1500, is selling for 2.5 times issue price. The price of the voyageur coin keeps rising because there are very few listings for them. So far, there is only about a dozen of them since issue. So are people holding on their coins or have not receive them yet that's driving the shortage? And is the embargo on dealers a factor? Suppose the embargo ends, will we see more coins thus driving the price down. Also, the mintage of 2200 is low for RCM but is on par with mintages for Mints like the Perth Mint. I don't see Perth Coins jump in price like this one.

I don't want to be flipin but most pp or just mc members could really care about a 300 to 500 profit, but still nice to see a coin not instantly being discounted finally.

Both Big Nickel and Big 50 cent are nice pieces. Are they better than Voyageur? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Would love to own them all but there's only so much money to go around.

That's one of the finer points of collecting. 2oz is not necessarily worth twice 1 oz or 40% of a 5oz. Price becomes an issue too. If you start a coin at $500 or $550 there isn't much meat on the bone. At $150 or even $190, there is still room to move upward IF mintage and more importantly, demand is there. If remains to be seen though if the Voyageur coin can sustain high pricing over time. Several coins in recent years have enjoyed short term appreciation but very few hold those higher prices long term. Even PM content is meaningless to a point - see the Birds of Canada cupronickel coins. Numismatics is sometimes a very strange creature. As for Perth Mint....some collectors, me included, have no interest in their novelty and pop culture offerings especially after the infamous re-issue of kooks and change of their mintage policies in 2012. (As an aside, I wish I didn't have to ignore so many post about their stuff in the Canadian forum - not sure why they aren't moved to the Australian or world coins sections).

I hear you CC-Ottawa and totally agree. "Numismatics is sometimes a very strange creature." Largely due to it's dependency on the after market unless you are a sole collector.
If you are a collector there is never a loss.

Quote: As an aside, I wish I didn't have to ignore so many post about their stuff in the Canadian forum - not sure why they aren't moved to the Australian or world coins sections cause we collect mostly Canadian, but "keep an eye" on the RAM and Perth. Sometimes to compare, sometimes to showcase together with Canadian's aquisitions. Btw, RM stuff here also in the discussions, with their Proof Britannia, Royalty and XforX coins. (btw, RAM started couple of years ago nice habit - issue circulation coins as silver NCLT not only in the annual set, but separate coins, with very limited mintage - means no need to buy expensive silver set and extract coin that you like).

I understand you follow PM and like to compare but clogging the new release thread every month is IMO useless to many of us reading the Canadian threads. If I was looking for news on PM coins, I'd frequent the Aussie sections of this forum.
No offence intended, I just ignore it.

I think this play a big role to why the Big coin series does not appreciate much in price compare to others. As for comparing Voyageur mintage to other coins produced by PM, PM usually have their mintage number lower than RCM. If PM release a coin with 7500, it's too high where as the norm for RCM is 7500. So Voyageur having a mintage of 2200 equivalent to PM's God of Olympus coin with mintage of 1500.
