How's that a commercial?

He's just saying thanks. Not really advertising it on purpose imo.

Man, that has commercial written all over it. He spent more time talking about KellyCo than the "find of 10 lifetimes."

That's funny!

Almost an infomercial....one more camera doing close ups, an 800 number scrolling across at the bottom and a better script and they are good to go.

A great late nite cable TV show, on a network you've never heard of, targeting idiots with no life.

I can't believe the way this man is being libeled and slandered, with the moderators doing absolutely nothing. I'm real close to leaving this site, for I'm disgusted at the way this man has been rudely treated. I'm hoping he doesn't share his graded coin, please sir, take it to a metal detecting site where you are probably treated with the utmost respect. My apologies for the actions of "some" of the folks here, I've never seen such cruel attacks on this site.

Actually I did that video the same day I sent the coin to PCGS after speaking with my friend who works at Kellyco & he said they were going to sponsor me (been a good customer for many years) , they sold me all my equipment and my friend Blake pointed me toward the Nel tornado- so I purchased it from Kellyco and that is the only reasons that I found the 1806 $5 . So yes they helped me out big time & this is my way of saying thank you to them. And yes it is like an infomercial and they appreciate it very much. Anyone that helps me out & treats me good, get all good back big time. And yes, I will be selling the coin but I know who will not be getting it. My live find video I mention my equipment but not kellyco , hmmmm ? thecoinguy1964 , thank you !!

Hrm... I dont like this. Post it here. Please? Honestly, I only see one or two people that could have remotely offended you... Lets just all take some time to cool down.
Now, post the coin here. I dont care if it does get posted in a metal detecting forum, but also post the grade here. thanks.

Doesn't matter where yo go or what you say- there will always be Jealous people and haters who hate just to hate. "Stay Thirsty My Friends" And remember when the coin is slabbed and graded and goes public, you can remember this guy who was telling the truth and has found the find of 10 lifetimes. And all the people bad mouthing and being immature & name calling- I can guarantee you one thing that in person, you would not say one thing to my face, because you hide behind your little keyboards and I Am A real Man who would not tolerate such immature bad mouthing.

Interesting. Didn't know anything about Stowell before. He may have introduced Smith to the pastime of treasure digging. Doesn't sound like Smith was held in very high esteem.

I visited Hill Cumorah once. The little museum was run by an elderly LDS couple. Probably nicer now than it was in the 1980's.

I do not see any further constructive discussion coming from this thread.

I'm not bad mouthing you. I'm just calling you out on what appears to be a questionable story line that kept getting embellished with every reply you made.

How else did we get from a picture of a damaged 1806 5$ gold piece to treasure hunting at Joseph Smith's house?

I'm not sure there is remotely near any slandering or libelous statements being made here. Slander is a very specific statute; we're not "damaging" this man's reputation and causing him "financial damage" as a result. He won't be denied any work in his field over this or his hobby of detecting. So please, let's stow that talk.

Now as for general offense? Maybe his feelings are a bit hurt over some of what he has read. I doubt any sleep will be lost. My guess its more a rejected-hurt than any real emotional turmoil. I think Glenn respects the initial approach of the CCF where there was immediate knowledge shown and shared as to why the coin may have been (or could be) a counterfeit. For the 4th time in this thread I will admit I came out of shoes with some factual sounding statements and in the end I had to eat my shoes. Tobasco goes with anything.

In the end, whether or not he feels some of us are drinking the hateraide for whatever reasons or if he is so offended he'll sit around a few winter fires in the coming months with MD mates declaring "those Numismatists are so stupid", life goes on and we'll all be okay.

Glenn, good luck. Please post the coin in the slab when it comes. Now I'll start what we typically and actually do around here:

I'll post my guess

Someone mentioned Cumorah Hill, that's how that came about. As far as the Stowell's , Josiah was a friend of Joseph Smith's and his father (Josiah Sr.) started the mill. A statue of Joseph Smith stands on the Stowell property and is only about 7 miles from the Joseph Smith house, I now know the current owners (Mormons) and have their permission and blessing to metal detect both homesteads- they know I give them any historical items as I did and as it should be but I am permitted to keep any coins which I have.I've been inside both places several times and it was an honor to see the restorations that they have accomplished. I'm into history & research, I don't just go anywhere and swing my metal detector. I knew 100% after checking the place where I found the 1806 $5 gold that is was a 1st settlers camp or home after metal detecting the first day. I actually been to this place many times and surprisingly as of yet, have not found any spanish reales. I am getting a bigger coil for my detector that goes deeper than my current one in hopes that there are more rare finds at the same depth or deeper, the 1806 $5 is the deepest coin I've found to date at 13 inches but smaller and less conductive coins will require a bigger coil. And yes there are 2 nicks in my gold coin and not sure If I did that digging it or if it was from a plow turning the soil. Anyhow- I declare peace amongst us all on here and I will post photos of my coin when I get it back from PCGS, hopefully next week for all to enjoy my find of 10 lifetimes metal detecting. Thank you

Having spent a little time around Rochester and Syracuse the story is getting more interesting, to me anyway. In the "burned over" district of New York in the 1810-1830 period many people were desperately poor. New religions were being born as religious revivals swept over the area one after another. No safety deposit boxes. No banks. The business of digging for gold as a livelihood meant that if anyone had a half eagle they'd better hide it pretty well. Was this gold piece cached in a hoard - any evidence of a box, pottery, or a bag, or silver - spoons and coins? Close to a structure of any kind? Have you found any other caches of coins in your detecting?

Having lived out west most of my life there was always a lot of LDS presence, and it interests me. I've found that the LDS missionaries can be distracted from their proselytizing when I talk about the places I've been - Nauvoo, Cumorah, the western Missouri villages, the Liberty jail. Their history is very interesting to them, flattering or unflattering, and I'm not at all surprised that they would let you detect on their property provided you shared what you found. You're at ground zero.
