I am going to try the software tonight for tethering to get some practice - The copy stand is still 5-6 days out - 2 IKEA jansjo lights 2/3 days out - once I can get full coins to look acceptable then I will dive into the m5 5x macro microscope objective for doubled dies and re-punched mint marks.
Note so far I only did suggested changes or settings I did not play with anything beyond that to tweak or improve anything yet.
I did notice I can be at a few different distances to get the coin framed in nice.
Is there a base distance the camera should be at between the coin and camera?
Depending on twisting the focus the extension tubes and lens about 2 or 3 locations can be made. I imagine I should set up in each location/distance and do a photo test of same coin in each position to see.

Your results look good so far. I assume the fuzziness here is caused by the tilted coin. If so, once you can shoot the coins straight on and use tethered live view for critical focusing, the results should be fantastic.

awesome, pepactonius I was also assuming the blur was from the tilt and the table not being sturdy.

Looks like you'll have plenty of light with that copy stand.

I could not get the tethering working.. I will try figure it out tomorrow...might need updates or something maybe cable been in the folded shape to long. ? I did however switch the extension tubes to be matte instead of glossy inside. I did a few shots but blur as my kids having a party or something and the house was shaking.. I didn't have the energy to go Homer Simpson on them.. I did notice when switch from a proof nickel to uncirculated Lincoln Cent everything changes. So I just played around with get distances and coin to center they came out blurry. I did notice the lighting is better in daytime through shade still very sunny here in Florida but night time its pitch black.

my makeshift copy stand just a camera resting on a bunch of coin albums shooting at flip on top of slab against a box and the floor and a tipped over led lamp. Picture from that set up took awhile of playing around to get the BIE to show up. More practice...

this is a example of some of the troubles I ran into. Lighting distance - close to camera or close to coin? location - from side, top bottom, etc? amount - one light source or two, etc? - defused with tissues or not? This coin is tricky as I want to capture the full coin with the die cracks on Lincoln's head and the die break in Liberty as well.

The 1954-S image is very good (besides the rotation, argh). Others are not so good. Try to do what you did on the 54-S and then make small changes from there to light placement, diffusion and in-camera settings (to eliminate the over-exposure); and post-processing. You are very close with the 54-S to the ideal Cent pic!!

I've heard very good things about the 90mm Tamron, but either one will do well for slabbed Morgans.

Let there be light....
the two JANSJÖ, LED work lamps coming today finally after getting a town away then being missent to another part of the country 3 times further then original shipping location only to return here 5 days latter..
I will play around with the lighting tonight and I also tried to get back to that 1954-s settings as a starting point I think I did but waiting for natural daylight to test.
besides lighting what other setting or adjustment helps with contrast in general
general guidelines, tips or suggestions
I will post photo latter but basically I can get the detail and everything else to look good but the contrast / color is just not there the coin is kind of light or white washed out. If I adjust the the color and contrast in photoshop it looks great. But I would rather get it right from the start.
