Yesterday, I locally sold another "lot": two Morgan dollars; several rolls of 90% halves; several rolls of 40% halves; one pre-64 Washington quarter; and 10, pre-64 Roosevelt dimes.

I got $18.00 each for the two Morgans (they were scratched and dinged), $8.00 each for the 90% halves, $3 each for the 40% halves, $4 for the quarter, and $2 each for the dimes.

There was nothing with numismatic value in this lot.

For U.S. accumulators, non U.S. junk silver should be considered, but there are two problems.
The fineness and weight of the various types can have a wide variation. The fineness and weight of the more common types has to be remembered, so that buying ASW value for money spent is viable buying tactic.

Another aspect to consider is the condition.
A dealer will naturally add a premium to any coin that has added numismatic value, due to it's superior condition. One then has to consider if the coin is being 'accumulated' for junk silver, or is being 'collected' to be included in a coin collection.

@sel: fully agreed. There's lots of interesting 'world junk' out there. In fact, that makes up about 99% of the junk at my LCS. I usually try to bargain a bit on low silver content junk finds and never without result. Key here is to know what it is and how much silver is involved, as junk usually goes per weight here. What I usually do if I'm uncertain is to just look up some coins on numista on my cell phone.

I live in Florida and we had a gasoline shortage for about a week. The stations around me had gas but were taking only cash. I can see a situation where retailers in dire straights might not even take cash, but might take silver or gold. This is why I think it might be smart to put 5% of your savings in physical PM's even when investment guru's think you should buy ETF's that buy and store physical PM's. Look at P. Rico right now. Stores are only taking cash and there is a shortage of cash.

Today I locally sold WL, Franklin, and 90% JFK halves for $8 each, 40% JFKs for $2.50 each, Seated dimes for $5 each, Barber dimes for $3.50 each, Liberty dimes for $2 each, .999 fine Buffalo rounds for $20 each, and Eisenhower dollar coins for $1.10 each. Given the recent silver price decrease I was glad to sell for these prices!

This sale enabled me to cherry pick 5 WLs, 4-90% JFKs, 1-40% bicentennial JFK, 3 MS 1953-S Washington quarters, 5 Seated dimes, 5 Barber dimes, 5 Liberty dimes, 1 ASE, and a sterling ring from different lots of coins (and a ring) I had purchased on ebay. I keep the silver coins I like and flip the rest to cover the cost of what I kept. on the Ikes I get them for fv from local banks and simply take the 10% profit when I locally sell them.

Picked up 41.8x fv 90% (franklins, Washington quarters mercs, and some roosies) for $420. Basically 10x per fv! This is from the local pawn shop that I keep getting great deals from.

mkman123, nice buy!

Saturday I locally sold 2 rolls of 90% halves; 3 rolls of 40% halves; 60, 90% quarters; and 200, 90% dimes.

I got $8.00 each for the 90% halves, $3 each for the 40% halves, $3.5 each for the quarters (some were dateless Barbers and SLQs), and $2 each for the dimes. I threw in 100 Ikes for fv.
