Went through another box. It was a really crappy box until the last 5 rolls, then I found two silver, so I felt better.

Here is today's update. 100 rolls 47 pre 1959 1 silver nickel (43S) no oddball finds GRAND TOTAL UP TO NOW: 1300 rolls 528 pre 1959 (5 most common: 1940(51),1957d(43),1941(41),1958d(38),1946(27)) 23 silver nickels (3 most common: 1943S(8),1943P(6),1944P(3) 4 Buffalo nickels (dateless,1920,1927,1929s) 3 Bermuda 5 cents (1970,1987,1996) 1 Bahamas 5 cents (2000) It was nice to get a War Nickel; it had been something like six boxes since I got one! Next two boxes are sitting on my desk next to me; more fun tonight! Stay Tuned..... |

I picked up a box and 8 customer-wrapped rolls and let me tell you...they were loaded! The box produced 3 silvers, 3 canadians, 1 Bermuda and 35 other oldies. The first 6 customer rolls had nothing at all. The last two contained 21 (yes, thats twenty-one) pre-58, bringing the days total to 63 keepers! By far the most productive batch I've sorted. I'm going for another box or two on friday and will keep you all posted

GFR3, great luck on those customer rolls! Anything semi-scarce out of those 21 nickels, or just "common" ones? Anyway, here are the results of today's 100 rolls. I had OK luck on one box, great luck on the second one! 100 rolls 55 pre-1959 5 silver nickels (43P,43S,(2)44P,45P) no oddball coins (except one of the rolls (which were wrapped in bank-plastic shrinkwrap) contained a penny (at least it was a copper one!) GRAND TOTALS TO DATE: 1400 rolls 583 pre-1959 (5 most common: 1940 and 1957d(54 each),1941 and 1958d(45 each), 1954d(29) 29 silver nickels (3 most common: 1943S(9),1943P(7),1944P(5) 4 Buffalo nickels (dateless,1930,1927,1929s) 3 Bermuda 5 cents (1970,1987,1996) 1 Bahamas 5 cents (2000) One of the two boxes contained 34 pre-59's including 4 of the 5 silver nickels. Already have the next two boxes to check tomorrow morning; stay tuned! |

Here are the results of another 100 rolls. Have to admit, these two boxes were quite interesting! 100 rolls 68 pre-1959 3 silver nickels (43P,(2)43S) 1 Buffalo nickel (1927) 1 Proof (1993s) The first of the two boxes had a bunch of BU coins dated from 1957-1967. Matter of fact, before that box, I had found a grand total of 12 1958 nickels; that box yielded 12 alone, all BU!! I did pull all of the high grade coins; will now attempt to make BU sets from 1957 (or earlier if possible) to date. The proof came from the second box. GRAND TOTALS TO DATE: 1600 rolls 692 pre-1959 (5 most common: 1940(61),1957d(60),1941 & 1958d(56 each),1954d(52) 34 silver nickels (3 most common: 1943S(11),1943P(8),1944P(6) 5 Buffalo nickels (dateless,1920,(2)1927,1929s) 1 Proof (1993s) 3 Bermuda 5 cents (1970,1987,1996) 1 Bahamas 5 cents (2000) 1 Belgium 1 Franc (1975) Today is Saturday; no banks open tomorrow! Nice day there CND! I've only ever found one proof (1984S) and that was pulled from my register about a month ago. I pull it out everytime I search a box as sort of a good luck charm hah.
The customer rolls from the other day didn't produce anything special--mostly 58, 39, and 41 if I remember correctly. There were also a ton of various 1960's in there so my guess would be it was someones collection that was rolled and cashed in.
I did another box yesterday and I must say that it was the worst I've played with to date. I did manage a silver (43P) but other than that I found only 9 other oldies. Of the 9, I plugged two holes in my books (58 and 47S) so I guess it wasn't all that bad.
My totals stand as follows:
350ish rolls
159 pre59 (1941 is in the lead with 12)
14 silvers (1945P in the lead with 5)
2 Buffalo (1925 and a no date)
3 Bermuda
2 Bahama
1 twenty pence (england I assume)
1 minor clipped planchet (1992 D)
11 Canadian (decided to try and put together a set of these too)
1 Puritan Casino Token
I get a "Keeper" roughly out of every other roll. I have 21 holes left in the book and an ever growing Zip-Lock full of nice, sexy old Jeffersons :)

ive gone through dozens of boxes and havent found a proof nickel so far, I'm glad to know that there out there though hopefully one will pop up soon

I got a 1949S, which I consider to be a Semi-Key due to its low-mintage. Getting another box tomorrow which is going to have to hold me over til next week--gotta work all day everyday

In a previous post chevrolet454ss said that we should be hanging onto all of the '82 & '83 p & d nickles we come accross because they are selling at such a premium on ebay. I'm certainly not one to disagree with you chevy if there's some $ to be made. My question is; Does anyone know why they are selling like this? Since they were minted in the hundreds of millions like so many other Jeffersons this is a bit puzzling to me. I could see it if folks were going for the full steps or something like that. But this would apply to so many other years. Why the '82 & '83's? I could even understand a little better if we were talking about the '68D or something like that. Anyone have any theories? |

I had a wonderful box today--30 keepers including 2 silvers (45s and 44p) a buffalo (chewed on date :( ) a 1984 canadian, and a stunning, gorgous AU+ 1938. The 38 is in better shape then most '07 I have seen. I'm thinking grandma kicked the bucket and her coins got dumped at the nearest coinstar...sad but i'll take it! Pics forthcoming

Well, there were no mint sets issued in 1982 or 1983. So there are no "official" uncirculated examples for these years in all denominations - cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, etc. So guess what, speculator frenzy. So even circulated rolls of 1982 and 1983 of any denomination are selling for WAY over face value. Of course, G/VG/F specimens of 1982/83 coins are worth no more than others from 1980 or 1984, but you got it - speculation...... Now of course, XF/AU/BU ARE worth keeping. And G/VG/F if you are an E-bay flipper!! |
