Went through my 293rd box of nickels last night (bank wrapped rolls). Found 31 pre-1960 Jefferson nickels. Nothing unusual -- no semi-key or key dates found. What I did find across the 50 rolls were 9 V-nickels. I found this highly unusual especially since these were not customer wrapped rolls where I would find someone's collection dump. Since starting CRH-ing nickels, I only ever found 5 V-nickels across 292 boxes. So finding 9 in one box was a big surprise. Also found in this box were 5 Canadian and a single Buffalo (1936) nickel. The 9 V-nickels: 1898 (1), 1903 (3), 1906 (1), 1911 (2), and 1912 (2).

Forty rolls of dimes yielded nothing the other night, but a mere five rolls of nickels produced a tougher date 1944-S War Nickel.

Nice War Nickel TomM. In searching almost 300 boxes, I've only found one 44-S. Still looking for two more for sets #2 and #3 that I'm building. They seem harder to find than a 50-D.

Thanks, tnt. This is my first 1944-S in about one hundred boxes.

Picked up a 1943-D War Nickel in my usual $20 from the credit union. A few possible WDDR modern nickels, too. Otherwise a rather ordinary batch of nickels.

Found this 1953-D nickel on the batch prior to this one. Really in pristine shape for a 71 year old coin. Curious that the back toned more than the front. I wonder if someone emptied out an old nickel folder?
