Does anyone have any suggestions for coin holders that can hold very large (>60mm) and very thick (>5mm) medals? The largest holders I can find are Quadrum XL holders and they only go up to 55mm in size. Additionally, some high relief medals I have will not fit in them because the holders are too thin.

I know that I could send them off to a professional coin grader and get them slabbed but I would rather not bother with that.

Quite often, medals are presented boxed.

Some coin dealers have old boxes for sale, that had proof coins in them.
Take the guts out of one of these boxes, and make a thick wood inlay into the box, slightly largre than the coin and line it with velvet material.
Set the medal into it's new home.

I have done this with screw encapsulated coins.

The value of the item has to justify the small expense and large effort required.

I just thought of trying shapeways possibly? They are a 3D printing facility, you can also hire 3D designers to create your project as well. I have friends that use them all the time in making prototypes and model parts. They do great work.

They have quite a few case designs and display stands already in their shopping section.
