Yeah, shame about the rust. The damage is irreversible. An EF coin worth about fifty cents has been reduced to one tenth of its original value. Be thankful it's not a corroded 1952 penny, you could have been faced with a twenty-five fold reduction in value.

I've often wondered why would happen if you put it in CLR for a couple minutes and give it a gentle rub with a soft cloth. Would this damage the coin further? Or would it take the rust away.
