Guy was asking $175. Couldn't afford so he traded me for one of my compound bows straight across.

I did verify PCGS number before deal was made

MS-65-1901-O-Morgan.-Is-It-Over-Graded?

MS-65-1901-O-Morgan.-Is-It-Over-Graded?

MS-65-1901-O-Morgan.-Is-It-Over-Graded?

Is it over graded?

What does series and coin number mean? This isn't on any of my other PCGS graded coins.

Thanks!!

It's an older PCGS holder. Grade looks ok to me typical weakish strike for New Orleans pretty clean fields and cheek. I think you did fine.
Rest in Peace

Series and coin number were only used for a few years by PCGS. That makes no difference on value. Looks like a typical MS-65 for that date and mint mark. Nice coin.

Seems accurately graded. Good luster and just a couple tiny hits on the face. Very clean fields.

Thanks all. Got this from a guy who inherited a collection. He say he has 1 more Graded Morgan, says its a 1900 O/CC MS 65. That will be my next graded coin...he only wants $225 for it. He also says he has hundreds of pennies in 2x2s for sale/trade.

First off that 1901-O looks solid for an MS65, second, $225 may be high for a PCI AU58 O/CC. PCI has been all over the place over the years and depending on the generation of the PCI slab weighs heavy on the potential accuracy of the grade.

If you can get pics of the 1900 o/cc we can assess it and possibly help you get a good deal.

I agree with the crowd. The 01 O is a very nice coin. Typical New Orleans strike. I can't help but feel if that coin were struck better it would be a candidate for a 66. Wonderful luster and, from what I can see from pics, extremely clean fields and cheek. Please be wary of the AU coin in the PCI holder. Make sure you have someone take a peek at it for you if you are not too familiar with grading. There is an NGC AU55 on ebay with a "buy it now" price of $189 at the moment. PCI, in my opinion, is not reliable and I would not be surprised if the coin had been cleaned or was actually a grade or two lower. Don't be in a hurry to buy it. It could be a $50 coin.

Thanks again guys. When I called the guy I got the PCI registration number from coin. Have discovered there is no way to verify their numbers. I wont buy a coin that cant even be verified by its own grading company...so this one is an automatic no go.

I am VERY happy to get this 1901o from him. This coin belongs in active collection...not just sitting in a drawer somewhere.
