I bought a BU Peace dollar and received it today. The seller had just tossed it loose into a padded mailer! It doesn't seem to have suffered any friction marks in transit, but that's still no way to package a big silver coin. Sorry, just had to vent. Paul Bulgerin

Many folks who sell coins on ebay have no idea how to handle a coin or how to pack one. Most of them have no clue as to the existence of flips or 2X2's. While it may seem completely logical to us that a coin needs to be protected, I can see where someone without any idea about coins might think, "it's a chunk of metal, what can hurt it?" As mentioned, if they are selling more coins, it would kind of you to let them know. If they answer positively, which they probably well, you've saved some coins from potential damage and a few collectors from having the same frustration. |

I'm going to send the coin back. I hadn't looked at it too closely before I made my post, but when I took photos of it I found there are hairlines all over the reverse. I bought it as a BU. The auction photos weren't great so I can't tell if the hairlines were there in the photo or are the result of the dollar sliding around in the mailer while on its way to me. The coin does have a cool die crack running from the 2:00 position on the reverse through the eagle's head.  Paul Bulgerin

Ship it back for full refund, Not As Described. Sorry, but fuzzy photos are a sign of a lazy vendor or deliberate way to trick bidders, and poor packing practices just confirm it.
I would not leave positive feedback, either. Vendors need to learn the hard way, they can be cheap, lazy, and greedy. Not shipping a BU coin in a ten-cent flip is just greedy.
They could have wrapped it in a napkin obtained for free at the local burger joint, but couldn't even do that. Guess it might cost a little extra postage.

Here's the auction photo. Not a great one, but I can't see any hairlines on it. The inside of the bubble wrap mailer is fairly rough. I can see how the coin could slide around and end up with hairlines.  Paul Bulgerin
