Anonymous obulus (1/2 denar) from Hungary. Can't find this one in any free catalogs online, but overall fabric and imagery (small crude crowned head between castle turrets) is right in line with Andrew II, 1205-35 This is amazingly small, about 9-10mm and weighs about 1/6 of a gram. Any further info is greatly appreciated, since the physical catalogs cost more than I paid for all of these Hungarian coins combined.

@finn235, that is a nice little coin! It is pretty worn, but I agree on the timeframe and ruler.
I'm thinking it most resembles Huszar #272. In that case, the obv (your second pic) would have a seated ruler holding a scepter and a bird. The other possibility is Huszar #276, but then there should be a star, crescent moon, and annulet above the crowned head and I don't see any evidence of those details above the crown and before the circle near the top edge of the coin. If it were mine, I'd say it was a #272.

Thanks for the references! It is indeed curious; I am actually inclined to say this one might be Huszar 272, perhaps poorly centered? It strikes me as odd that a coin with such little surface area would show such a contrast in wear patterns; perhaps the bottom is so weak because the dies did not make full contact?
Could also be an unlisted variety? Are these known from contemporary mint records, or are the catalogs simply built as they are found?
Might have to cross post this one at the FORVM for some opinions.

I think poorly struck (by modern standards) rather than poorly centered. The peripheral ring is almost at the edge where it is visible. Having only half a coin struck up is pretty common for Europe of this century.
It is my opinion that H#272 is the most likely attribution, but your coin could be an unpublished variant. As I look from Huszar to Frynas and the several decade lapse of time between these books, the research has improved and there are additional varieties. So yes there could be more. With regard to contemporary mint records vs. coins found, I am not aware of any coins in the catalogs that only exist "theoretically", as in were mentioned in some sort of mint records, but no physical examples exist. Of course we are talking about the 1200s--I can't imagine much for mint records being extant.

@Finn235: your coin is a half denar (obulus) Huszar 337 (Bela IV. 1235-1270)

@baltas, great coins and I think that you are right about the attribution on fin235's coin.
