HI I was at several TD banks over the weekend, and they all had the same sign on their machines. No longer in service.

I asked about them at several branches and got the same response.

all machines are being removed across both USA and Canada.

Yes the machines inaccurately were counting the coins, good news is,at least from my TD banks in NJ. I was told that they will reimburse you the fees taken from the coinstar counting machine,so all is not lost, just bring in the receipt with how much they took from you and TD will reimburse. I'd just double check with your bank before doing so.

I was told the same thing up to $50 a month. Now that they are removing the machines, they might do away with that as well.

Bad news :(. Debating if I will keep searching small cents or not. The small bag I have will have to be rolled.

In that case, will they be accepting coin deposits over the counter?

Enjoy the roll hunting while you still can. This is just another event on the way to its inevitable end.
Rest in Peace

Just came back from TD Bank . their counting machine is no longer in service and probably for good. at least until somebody can make a counting machine that will not short change people . If you have an account at TD you can cash in paper wrapped rolls for cash or deposit into your account .

My local TD has been taking rolls of halves from me since the Arcade shut down. No complaints yet but I've never dumped more than $110 at a time. Still using the coin machine at a CU where I have an account and so far they have no issues with me dumping large amts of coins (for deposit). Last dump was $250 and it gave me $4 more in credit. Don't think I counted wrong but I'm not 100% sure, at least I didn't lose money.

Also found another local bank with a coin machine, no charge for bank customers. Probably will close the TD account and open one at this bank. The only other choice is to use Coin Star and get gift cards to avoid fees.

The news article below is interesting for the photo at the bottom of the page from Fairless Hills, Pa. Which one of "YOU" is the guy dumping a bag of Kennedy's into the machine? Looks like it could be $500 worth.

Anyone pick up on the RCM announcement regarding the withdrawal of the coin kiosks?

Quote:
The unforeseen withdrawal of a major financial institution's coin recycling kiosks decreased the volume of recycled coins to 762.6 million coins......a 40% decline in the volume of coins processed under the Alloy Recovery Program and significantly lower revenues of only $2.7 million in Q2 2016 compared to $5.7 million generated in Q2 2015.

Seems that since there was issue with the Coin Star machines why not make arrangements to bring them back again? The Mint can afford to subsidize them considering the potential return.

Aside from roll hunters using them who I'm sure could and are just as easily rolling them back up again when done, the majority of people taking advantage of the free machines are likely seniors or low income that can't afford the 14% fee.

Just seeing some of Canada's big 5 banks releasing their quarterly profits of almost 2 billion in 90 days, I hope someone in the US will hammer them in a class action for shorting their clients. amended TD just released 2.36 billion profit Q3

Proof nut, the TD counters were never free for non clients. It was I think somewhere between 5% and 10% (free for TD members)

Yes that's true but still cheaper than using the Coin Star machines.
Hoping they bring them back at some point in the future.

That was my other thought. I wondered what kind of improvement if any that would have on the variety of coins in the boxes picked up at the branches.
