This one caught my eye this morning. A Dual Denomination Coin.

Nice! And it seems to be in very good quality, too.

I like coins with double denominations. We have some 'transit'-coinage here in Norway, where both the value in Kroner and in Speciedaler is put on the coins. I guess it helps people a lot when going from one currency to another.

Cool find, ARcoins! I may have to re-examine my Rhodesian coins to see if I have any dual denominations, but I don't recall seeing something like this before. Thanks for sharing!

Here is an interesting Dual Denomination coin from East Africa, 1954.

ARcoins, I believe I have that East African coin. Any idea why dual denominations seem to be specifically on African coins rather than elsewhere?

""Zimbabwe ," an American journalist played by a horribly miscast Jennifer Connolly corrects him. "They call it Zimbabwe now."

"Do they now?" he replies.

@twinkinator: dual denominations are not only found on African coins. Think of the first British florins (1848-1887): the denomination there is "one florin - one tenth of a pound". Later they put "one florin - two shillings"(1893-1910). Other exemples of dual denominations are New Zealand "10 cents - shilling" 1967-1969 or in Danish West Indies "1/2 cent - 2 1/2 bit", "1 cent - 5 bit", "2 cents - 10 bit" and "5 cents - 25 bit"

Chile used to use the Condor and Peso dual denomination, Madagascar the Franc and Ariary.

My guess is that there must have been a substantial part of the population that those in charge thought would understand only one or the other denomination.
