Thanks for the replies...I think the coin is nice too...my biggest curiousity is what looks to be some type of mark visible on the cheek of George...does anyone else notice the mark and know what it is? I am not an experienced enough collector to know if this is die burn or something else and would appreciate people's input...thanks as always you guys are a great resource and I will likely owe some beers soon considering how many of my questions you guys answer for me here!

that is merely a break in the luster, from either contact with others coins or from an incomplete strike(this is one of the highest points of the coin, therefor when struck it is the last part of the die to be filled, an insufficient amount of pressure would cause this). I wouldn't regard it as anything distracting or bad as it doesn't appear to be damage.

the same thing can be noticed to some extent on Hughe's examples once you look past the toning.

i would however clarify with the seller that this is an impression in the holder from the coin's rim and not damage to the coin though.

I am not worried about the mark on the cheek any more, but have contacted the seller to ask if the rim is damaged...he is checking, just waiting for a reply at the moment...I will also be taking a look at Hugues coins in the upcoming auction...in the interim I am still searching for ICCS MS-66 George VI dimes so if anyone knows of a seller or an auction containing one...tough coins to find!

sounds good. best of luck and i'll continue to keep my eyes peeled for you. just to share, here is the coin I bought from them recently, they totally undersold the coin with these pics and I bet they did to some extent with that dime, I think it'll be an absolute stunner in person.

No luck, I had inquired about buying the coin a week and a half ago, I found out today it has sold, the hunt continues!

I'm so sorry to hear that because she was a real stunner..but I love your attitude. the hunt continues! is the motto of just about every true collector. thanks for the compliment on my coin, it is much appreciated. will you be attending the Toronto coin expo? you may be able to find something there that catches you and also meet some members of CCF.

Thanks dollarman...I am still fairly recent in my return to coin collecting, so all of the help I find here is very much appreciated! No plans at the moment to attend the Toronto coin expo, but would love to get to know the members here better...it was just bad timing with the 1940 dime, I inquired right away once it was listed, but the listing came down quickly...not much more I could do and there will always be another coin to buy...Hugues has some nice ones noted previously in this thread (he posted some pictures)...I will keep a dialogue going with him
PS I checked if the London coin centre dime had a rim nick as you had suggested, it didn't, but I can see how it pays to be cautious with these purchases
