hey guys, so I'm working on a trade, and I'm trading a lot of my junk silver for a gold Quarter Eagle. Is that worthy? Would you guys trade the majority of your junk silver coins for a gold quarter eagle?Thanks for your opinions.

I personally won't, but it's just because I don't like gold.

it would depend on the premium on the gold piece, and what value they are putting on your junk silver.

Have you done your homework on the historical spot prices? Silver and gold are no longer pegged to each other, and silver has been fluctuating a lot, on a generally downward trend. If you do the trade when silver is high and gold is low, you will have to sell fewer of your silver coins, or you will be able to afford a nicer gold coin.

One ... I would not trade a majority of my junk silver ... Because I have a lot of junk silver.
-----------------------
For me to make the deal, I would have to figure out how much I could sell the junk silver for, and then how much I could buy the quarter eagle for.
Is it a $2.50 Liberty or Indian?

I forgot to mention, the quarter eagle is a Indian gold.

This is not a question anyone but you can really answer.
ask yourself this; does the 1/4 eagle fit in my collection better than junk silver?
If yes then ask;
What would the 1/4 eagle cost me in cash?
If I sold the silver would I get this much or less?
Answer these honestly and you will know what to do.

I'm not too familiar with gold. Does a 1/4 eagle typically sell at a numismatic premium? If so, and the price is right, the gold piece sounds enticing.

In my experience it seems a lot easier to pick up 'junk' silver than decent gold, everything else being equivalent. So if you are getting what your silver is worth at current spot, why not. More variety = more fun in this hobby, imho.

It depends. For the same value, silver volume would be larger than gold volume. Its would be easier to carry one $50 gold coin (1 ounce) than to carry almost 70 ounces of silver. On the other head, it would probably be easier to sell off the silver. Selling portions and finding buyers.

Spot silver for spot gold why not (depending on the weight of the gold) When silver hits $50 / oz again it will be easier to find someone to buy / barter for an ounce of silver than someone with $3000 to buy / barter for your ounce of gold. Same goes for silver bars. Sure it is cool to own a 100 oz bar but when it hits the fan (maybe as soon as November this year ) who are you goign to find to take it off your hands at a fair price compared to an ounce round or 10oz bar at worst.
