http://apmex.com/product/103587/I found this fascinating - the holder, the price, and the fee for a CC purchase! Why on god's earth would anyone send a $10K note to CGA?  Edited by Coinfrog

I'm guessing by the holder that it may have gone to CGA when they were the only paper money TPG around. I also checked the Heritage archives, and found eight CGA graded $10,000 notes.....none in a new holder. |

PCGS & PMG didn't certify currency until 2006..
I had contacted both companies when they first opened, inquiring about both my Web overprint error & Bank of England triple serial number error (3rd set of Serials printed over inspectors blue rejection marks)..
PCGS could holder the Web error, but not the UK note as they only graded USA & Canadian Currency then..
PMG (with Ramesh King as Operations Manager) was more then pleased to certify both notes, and surprised PCGS could only certify one note..
Prior to 2006, I believe CGA was the only 3rd Party Certification Company..
There are many high valued notes today that once resided in CGA holders at lower grades..

Good point, Steve and B/C - didn't catch the early style CGA holder. I was laughing too hard at the CC fee when I linked it.  |

It's definitely a self control issue having them on hand coinfrog. I have bought some crazy things on impulse that I wouldn't have otherwise. For example I had a custom collar made for my dog at Tiffany and Co
