the old saying holds true.. it is not what you know, but who you know..

It sure does. Which is the reason why it surprises me that a Govt Crown Corp doesn't always appear to have good control over enforcing limit restrictions, knowing it ends up on the secondary market motivated by profit.

Can you image the public outrage if certain people - for example, those with political connections or others of wealth and influence - were known to have the ability to personally benefit by talking down a CRA or GST tax rate?

@onecad That is my concern. My rep indicated that he placed my order. His reply to my request to order was an email saying, "Done."

From that I thought I was good to go. Now from what I read above and that my order is not listed on the RCM site, I am out of luck. Disappointing because at one point I was on the website when they were available to add to cart.

I'll follow up with my rep on this to see where I stand. I won't be pleased if using a rep rather than placing an order online cost me getting this coin.

Using a rep rather than placing an online order cost me two hot coins: the 2014 Gold Superman and last years Voyageur coin. Had to pay a premium elsewhere.

Having a rep doesn't really help you much if they run out of their allotment.

canuck1us I was told that 'higher uppers' cancelled all orders as they saw fit. Worse, Reps may or may not have notify those affected.

You are quite right that the coin was available on-line around midnight and couple of times this morning for Platinum members. Unfortunately, many of those who relied on their rep's confirmation prior to the orders being cancelled were likely unaware that they needed to reorder today. Many likely still don't realize that they are not getting the coin as ordered and confirmed.

Sorry to say but if it's not on your order profile, you likely are not getting it. I would recommend calling your rep though to be sure and see what he or she may be able to do for you.

I was told that my phone order won't show up on the site for a couple of days. Hopefully that's the case for you, too.

I ordered another one online today, just in case. With the "one per household" limit they'll just cancel one of the orders. This way I'm guaranteed to get one (I hope).

I don't like to take chances with hot coins like this one. It's always better to place an extra order.

I ordered 1 as soon as the on-line access was available to Plat+ members, ordered a second when I read here there was no limits. When RCM fixed the limit to 1, I notice neither of my orders were on my Order History but I was still able to place another order. My order history now shows 1, Status: New order.

Wow,I'm glad I decided to take a break from purchasing coins. I liked the "Voyageur"coin more so. This little break is giving me a better perception in coin collecting.

I don't remember the original Librarian coin. Although,the original is on sale at one of the larger dealers for 22 and change and would be a nice addition to those who bought this one.
Actually, I'm tempted into buying one of the sculpture coins.

That is the reason why I got rid of my rep a few years ago. Nothing but problems. I am a Masters Club PLATINUM PRESTIGE member and now I just purchase the coins I desire. I only have myself to blame if I miss out on a coin I want when its sold out. As long as I keep getting emails from the mint of their new releases I will always have first crack on getting the coins I want without relying on a rep. I did buy multiple coins of this one and not one got cancelled (for Now). Will wait and see if they go through. I do purchase well over 10k a year.

@Silveroid

I like to display my coins; I'm thinking about a backdrop of original coins in a floating frame behind the Commemorative Coin. I have 7 so far.

My rep emailed me yesterday confirming that he ordered this for me but it hasn't shown up on my order list when I look at the RCM website.

I emailed him before I received any notification about this other than what I saw on here as I am a platinum MC level.

Where I have read that others on here have had their order canceled, it does concern me that mine didn't show up at all.

Hey Canuck1us... I'm Platinum Prestige and I'm in the same boat as you are.

Here's my full timeline:
1) Received advance notice.
2) Emailed Rep to place order (silver dollar, Underwater life, and Snow Angels lenticular coin).
3) Rep e-mailed me back in the afternoon confirming order with a PDF copy of the invoice, as above.
4) Looked online at mint.ca, and could not see the order. Attempted to use the "hack" that was detailed a few pages back with my order number, and nothing came up online.
5) I called my rep to 2x check that the order had been place. Left voicemail.
6) Rep e-mailed me the next morning (yesterday) acknowledging my voicemail, and assuring me the order was, in-fact, placed and confirmed.
7) Checked mint.ca last night, order still not visible.
8) Decided to hedge my bets, and place an order online for the silver dollar. mint.ca allowed me to proceed and pay by paypal. Funds were removed from paypal account.
9) Last night's order appears (silver dollar), but the first order with three items - that was confirmed with my Rep on 2 occasions - does not.

@JGG said it best:

OKay, since I am platinum plus and didn't get any web notice, I spent 1 hour trying to get hold of a rep today and finally placed an order for one coin. I am very very busy at work, so taking an hour to play games on the phone to buy one coin is not easy for me.

I feel as though online ordering would be much, much easier... completely bypassing the rep system. I don't have time for the teaser e-mails from my rep over the weekend that state "call me this weekend for the inside scoop", or "watch your e-mail at exactly XX:XXam for your pre-release notification".

Coin collecting is supposed to be fun - not intruding or stressful. It's supposed to be a hobby to fill "extra" time, not detract from daily life or your regular routines. This whole series, I feel, has been horribly mangled in terms of service delivery on the RCM's side.

When combined with recent quality issues and returns discussed recently on the forum (http://goccf.com/t/271580 / http://goccf.com/t/271576) coin collecting has been more of a work of art than pleasure as of late... and if I'm saying this (I feel I'm pretty dedicated to the hobby), I can't imagine where others' heads are at!

Edit: Placing emphasis on "work" in the statement "work of art"

@blastofffireworks

You articulate quite well the point I've been making to the mint the past few months and I've forwarded your post to the customer support contact I've been dealing with. Thank-you
